If you have twic you can use that as pre check, if you put your id number from card when reserve ticket.
just don’t try to use your TSA-issued ID card at the TSA desk. Heads will explode LOL

Do you really need TSA pre check and clear? Wouldn't one or the other be enough?

Absolutely. You deal with experienced travelers as well.

Disagree. Check Pensacola airport. TSA Pre-Check is a must.

Normally Pre Check is consistently faster. It’s just a speedier process and the other people in line are usually frequent fliers. If you fly more than 5-6 times per year it’s worth it.

There are exceptions and one is at MSY. Pre Check can sometimes take 45 minutes or more to get through during Monday morning rush. Other times at morning rush it can take only 2 minutes. Depends on how many people show up for work and how aware the shift manager is at the time. I never know until I get there. That poor management and lack of predictability that forces me to add more time to my travel is one of the reasons I don’t like to fly MSY anymore.

PIT was like that too and it was annoying AF. Pre-Check could take anywhere from 5-50 minutes on Monday mornings. Which means I have to arrive 75 minutes before my flight at least.

It’s always faster at ORD, SFO, DFW, and the other big airports. CLEAR is even better but it’s not all all airports or even all terminals at big airports yet.

There is no TSA Pre-Check ID card.

To the OP yes it’s very much worth it.

ETA: If you have TWIC, you have a KTN. Don’t pay twice!

Solid advice.

Also some credit cards will pay to cover the fee/renewal.

Short answer is yes. At one point I was flying 3-5 times a week and precheck (and Clear) kept me sane. Especially in large airports like Denver, LAX, LaGuardia, ohare, etc. As an fyi, some credit cards give a credit for tsa (Cap One Venture). My wife doesn’t fly a lot but we got her both so that flying with the kids is easier.

I suggest using the entrance at Terminal F/International for ATL. Most of the time it’s smooth sailing and far less crowded.

Air travel is a shitshow, but it helps sometimes.

Clear is a joke, but it also helps sometimes.

Being mildy inebriated as you go through the checkpoints is about the only thing that helps consistently.

They likely run them through every database available to Homeland Security.

That too, but it's worth it if you are flying into/out of busy airports (there have been times when leaving out of BTR that the lines are so short they don't even bother opening a Pre-Check line). I've walked by lines in JFK which looked to be about 30 minutes just to get to the point where they check your ID, just to have the whole process take only ~5 minutes when going through Pre-Check.

Whatever do, make sure your boarding pass says TSA Precheck on it. Didn’t notice SW hadn’t put it on mine when I checked in, and the nice gentleman (as someone noted, Navy SEAL wannabe) booted me at checkpoint, even with my Global Entry card in my hand. Had to go all the way back to the ticket counter (MSY) and still made it through security faster than the unwashed in the other line.

Didn’t see anyone else mention this, but pay the extra ($25 irrc) and get Global Entry. Makes a huge difference when flying Internationally.

If you are traveling in the rush business hours...not as much. I've seen the PreCheck line actually take longer than the standard line on 5:30am flights on Mondays...but after the "business rush" it absolutely is shorter.

The PreCheck fliers are typically frequent fliers and often travel out early Monday to wherever they are going.

Yes, less interaction with TSA’s Burger King/Popeyes level workers.

Global Entry has saved my arse on making a connecting flight. Pre-check has been hit or miss for me. Sometimes the line is longer than the regular line, and other times it's helped my breeze on through.

That’s exactly what we usually do. Parking shuttle only serves the International Terminal plus we’re flying international. I try to avoid the Domestic side as much as possible.

If you truly enjoy standing in super long lines at airport TSA security checkpoints, then no it does not make a difference

Either waiting there or at the gate, so don't mind this as much as airline frequent flyers (non-precheck/clear folks) being allowed to skip the long lines by using the handicap line. TSA should not be influenced by airline benefits.

Even if the lines were the same, it's still worth it to me just to leave my shoes on and my laptop packed.
