Booked a packaged flight and Car rental with Thrifty to CA John Wayne airport for wife and daughter.

They get there, walk to garage or wherever they were supposed to go.

No cars. Pure, sorry about your luck, no cars, put you on bs waiting list but there's no cars or expectations in sight. Numerous people getting turned away same thing. NO cars. No cars.

I'm on phone with travelocity etc. put on hold she calls whomever, and tells me they have a vehicle of a different size... Tell wife, walks back, NO CARS. MAM No Cars....

Call Travelocity back, Mam theres no CARS, sir this is what i was told. Me: You're being told wrong.

Both are offering a cancellation but at time that does me no good, THEY NEED A CAR.

Google other options: hertz: no cars, enterprise: No cars, some other place no cars.

Found alamo online that was at airport, booked a reservation in a second (no payment info taken and didn't have hope they'd be a car).... wife goes up with reservation, gets a car! (paying more for this other option than my prepaid other non refundable reservation to thrifty)

Call Travelocity on Monday couple days after, She was a pure bitch reading stupid lines and trying to explain the details of the bitch story of they had a car of different size but explained to her again numerous time she was wrong. She had to request a refund from Thrifty thru email and would email a response.

Response email less than 24 hrs that thrifty is refusing a refund due to non refundable fees despite not being able to even produce a vehicle. Travelocity's response in that email was basically sorry about your luck, let us know if there's anything lese they can assist with.

Called amex, filed dispute, assuming that bullshite will be resolved on their end. In the end, travelocity was an absolute worthless piece of shite middle company doing nothing for the customer.

Book two car reservations without deposit which is often allowed.
So that why if first car sucks orc line or wait is long go to second choice.

I can always tell people that booked third party, especially in Europe. They're the dejected people with bags on their cell phones in the lobby.

I believe that third party bookings receive different priorities on cars and rooms, and are sort of treated like "soft" bookings which aren't required to be fulfilled. You may still have been stuck, but at least booking direct there is one throat to choke.

I do plan for SNAFUs differently if I'm traveling with family or by myself. If I'm solo, I plan differently than the "I don't want to deal with kvetching wife and kids for two hours while we figure this out," trip.

I honestly haven't used Travelocity or Expedia for 20 years, before Reddit exposed me to how bad the 3rd parties are, from travel (hotel, car and airline employees.)

You should have consulted the travel board.

Do Rental car companies have the ability to completely change agreed prices on a contract just because you are turning the car in earlier than previous date?

We had a week at x price plus 2 days at y price per day.

We turned car in 3 days earlier, the new agreement was at week at x price plus $100 ish dollars and y price plus $25ish per day and was shorted a lot of money on the refund.

It was fixed when we turned car in but the bitch on the customer service line kept repeating the line that they can do pretty much whatever they want.

What does this have to do with the OP?

To your question, I have no idea because I turn the car in at the agreed upon time and date.

It’s a continuous discussion about car rental company operations. What’s confusing about it?

well yes, they were useless but its also mostly thrifty that fricked up the situation being out of cars and did nothing for us and was telling me they aren't even going to refund my money to the customer when not even providing a vehicle.

Never had a problem booking anything through Travelocity. In last 90 days booked a car rental with SIXT directly. Reserved a specific SUV and paid up front for a terminal rental .I get to Newark Airport and the vehicle in my spot is a Chevy Equinox. The attendant says it happens all the time. The SIXT counter is about a 1000 yards from the terminal rental lot. So I was screwed. Made a complaint to customer service and was told sorry, read the fine print. SIXT SUCKS Directly.

Stop using them. They don’t fight shite for you when something goes wrong. Worthless.

Simply dispute the charges. Card company can just kick it back; it’s fraud.

I book direct for airlines and hotels, but always go through Costco Travel for rental cars. It saved my arse one night when Avis ran out of cars. I always use Costco and typically book one of the Enterprise family brands (Enterprise, National, Alamo). I avoid just about everyone else like the plague.
