I did a search and couldn't find a topic on here surprisingly...

I would like to upgrade my travel game and get a backpack that can hold my laptop and have room for other things at the same time. I see there are a LOT of options out there, I know nothing about any of them. Does anyone have one they recommend? TIA

I just got the Carhart 30l. I needed more space for a trip with our 3yr old. laptop pocket and would work for a weekend bag.

Ditto. I've had mine for 15 years and still going strong. Hard to beat Swiss Gear.

Same and they hold up very well; I still have the one I bought 10 yrs ago and keep watching for it to wear out but it hasn't even though it's got more frequent flyer miles than Santa Claus

Does it have to be a backpack or just a bag for laptop? My Tumi messenger bag works great for me in a number of different travel situations.

But for backpack, I go with Swiss gear.

Gregory Boarder Carry-On 40 is awesome. Love the way it opens up completely and has the perfect amount of compartments.

Thank you all! This gives me lots to research and get one ordered. I appreciate it greatly.

In answer to one question above yes I would prefer a backpack model.

Like the look of this one. Can you use this in additional to a regular carry on or is it too large?

I believe so. I always check a bag though so never had that come up. It looks like a normal sized backpack. I flew on Breeze recently which I believe charges for carry-ons and I wasn't charged for it.

Whatever one you get just be sure to put it under the seat in front of you and not the overhead bin.

Seriously though, I started just sliding my laptop into a sleeve in my carry-on bag and using a very small backpack that can easily fit under the seat in front of me for things like my passport, headphones, charger, etc.

As I start to really look at the Swiss gear I have another question…

Are they big enough to put a set of dress or running shoes in when traveling? Or a light jacket?

Would like to have the option of computer bag and gear but carry a light amount of stuff that I may not cram in my roller bag.

I have a Tumi that has about 600k airline miles on it. It fits two laptops and has ample space for other items. I absolutely love it. A bit pricey but well worth the investment if you will travel a lot.

You can do a pair of shoes and a light jacket. I've had one for over 10 years and cram all kinds of stuff into it, it can hold a lot. Usually have a laptop, kindle fire, Bose headset, DSLR camera with a 500 mm lens, pair of binoculars, book, some paperwork. 15 to 20 pounds usually. It's held up well while I've had several suitcases over that time.

Are you wanting a backpack to hold a laptop and few other items or are you wanting a backpack to hold a laptop and be your only bag for a week long trip or more?

If the latter, Google Digital Nomad backpack recommendations. Digital Nomads travel the world while working location independent (remote) jobs, sometimes for a year or more at a time and only pack one backpack. Their recommendations on that sort of backpack are legit.

I've researched it because I plan to become a digital nomad once my kids are self-sufficient. I bought the Tortuga 45L backpack because I liked the capacity, but I really like the style of some of the Osprey backpacks better.

ETA: just read the rest of the thread and it looks like you are looking for a laptop backpack that will hold extra stuff rather than what I discussed above. I'll still leave this here in case someone else is looking for a travel backpack.

Timbuk2 makes some real high quality stuff. I've lugged mine around the world for years.

Hijack here.
I’m looking for one that is small. Laptop and portfolio with place for keys and wallet.
Using it for same day out and back flying.
