Guy ranked Maryland above New Mexico. NM might be a rough place to live, but as a visitor, it's an easy top 5 for me. There's a unique culture there that you won't find in Arizona, Utah, or Nevada (which are, frankly, varying degrees of mini Southern Californias). For a guy who cried at Selma (lol), you'd think he'd appreciate that aspect.

PA is way, way too low also.

He also said that one thing he noticed about Pennsylvania was a stark lack of "continuity" between the state's cities and rural stretches.

"If you go out to western Pennsylvania, it's completely different than Philadelphia," Abbamonte said.

Is this not a positive when visiting a state/country? Seeing the culture change with the landscape, contemplating the conditions and history that led to the contrast, etc. is one of my favorite parts about seeing new places. I don't get it

I wish all of his yankee friends shared his opinion. Then maybe they wouldn't be moving down here in droves, bringing their warped ideologies with them.

Within 50 miles Juneau has Glacier Bay, Admiralty Island, Juneau Icefield, Tracy Arm Fjord..Taku River...

Its a huge city geographically too at over 3,200 sq miles.

Yeah as long as you aren't in downtown SF or LA, or Oakland, Cali is a pretty great place just to visit.

what a shitty reason to say a state sucks because not enough flights go to it.

And he started traveling because planes were flown into buildings.

Lol versus it taking that long to go a few miles in your own city?

Oh and lousiana, guy loves cajun food and new orleans and without new orleans la would be 50. Ho much you want to be this dude did not go to cajun country?

If he had to pick a con, it would be how expensive the state can be.

beaches - crowded, cold and polluted, year around.

mountains - So does Arkansas, and Arkansas has the benefit of NOT being in fricking California.

islands - what? This is dumb, so does Mississippi.

great cities - And socialist government has killed any redeeming quality they once held.

good cities - this is dumb.

California, Hawaii, Nevada and Washington all in the Top-10? This guy has not my type of guy.

He said without NOLA it would be 50. What would you rank it without NOLA?

Kentucky at 48 seems indefensible also.

If we were talking about living there and not just visiting I could understand Louisiana being so low, but as visiting there’s no way. Maryland (and Baltimore) is literally Louisiana writ small with not as good food or fun a city. In fact, I’ll list all the states I think are hands down worse to visit than Louisiana:

Oklahoma
Kansas
Nebraska
North Dakota
South Dakota
Wisconsin
Iowa
Indiana
Ohio
Connecticut
Rhode Island
Delaware
Maryland
Mississippi

And those are just the easy ones. I could probably add at least half a dozen more, but you catch my drift.

That’s kind of tough….you can’t take NOLA out of Louisiana and then rank it without taking cities out of other states. Nevada probably wouldn’t be very fun without Vegas. But if we are talking about places to visit I stand by what I said. I would rather visit Louisiana than Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Ohio, North Dakota, never been to Vermont but it’s not exactly on my list of places to go. Could probably add West Virginia and Pennsylvania to that list as well. And if we are taking Nola out of Louisiana then we gotta take Omaha out of Nebraska so then there would be absolutely no reason to go there. And I’m not really putting much thought into this.

NOLA is one of those places that no matter what if one of your boys (or girls) plans a trip you will be excited to go back no matter how many times you have been. I can’t say the same about Jackson, Mississippi or Hot Springs.

What this says more to me is how relevant it is if you are familiar with a place. People from Vermont would probably be aghast at your statement - they have mountains and skiing and beautiful lakes and the changing leaves etc.

I think you could cut of north Louisiana and not lose anything for tourism. But really - outside of NOLA and the swamps/marshes, what does LA have going for it? The coastline is terrible for beach recreation.

I don't necessarily completely disagree with your list, but I think Arkansas and Ohio are difficult to put behind LA.

Drives me crazy. My company is in SoCal and Ive been there about 100 times in 13 years. Its my second home and I always look forward to going. Everyone I tell that to immediately goes to politics and how dare I go there. I vote in Texas so that's their problem.

I get to go to Big Bear, San Diego, Laguna Beach, Melrose, wine country, etc.

From Yosemite to the Red Woods to Carmel, it's really hard to beat the beauty. And the sunny and 70s year round aint bad too

I can’t argue with Cali being #1. It has everything all rolled into one state. If you take politics out of the picture there is really no reason to not rank it #1.

Colorado is probably my favorite state but I don’t think I would rank it ahead of Cali.

It says he's visited each state at least 3 times. On the Arkansas portion it mentions he's bene to Little Rock but not anywhere in the NW. So if he hasn't bene to Fayetteville or anywhere else noteworthy up there, did he just visit Little Rock 3 times? Imagine basing your opinion of the state on repeat trips to little rock...yeesh.

No kidding. That was my take as well. No clue how Arkansas even ranked as high as it did when he didn't leave Little Rock.

Lists like this are stupid, but it's even more stupid when you have only seen one location in the state.

What am I missing in regards to NW Arkansas? It’s not Tennessee. Drive a little further and go to Branson which is much prettier. It doesn’t have the culture of Louisiana. If you go more towards the center, Hot Springs was ok but I would be fine if I never went back. Circle Little Rock and ask yourself if we really need it?

Granted, Louisiana has its issues and a majority of the state is useless, but what it does have to offer can’t be found in any other state.

I just don’t see anything special for Arkansas. I guess bc I live in Tennessee and there isn’t anything Arkansas can offer me that I can’t experience here or within a 3 he drive. Maybe it’s just me but when I rank places, I also factor in how much I would want to go back.

Like Park City. I can’t wait to go back there and I don’t really need an excuse. If one of my buddies text me and said we were doing a guys weekend in Nola I would be thrilled. Same goes for Destin/Rosemary Beach. Anywhere in Colorado. I can go on.

I’m either not understanding the big deal with Arkansas or there are a lot of Arkansas homers on this forum.
