Have some free time over the next couple weeks and thinking about a solo trip someplace. Thinking about leaving day after Christmas. Not into skiing but not opposed to ski towns for snowmobiling. Stay in the country or should I venture over the pond ? What do you travel experts say? 5-10 days total.

How old are you? What do you like to do? I recently did guatemala solo. check out Antigua, do some fishing along the coast.

Panama City Panama is cool, great hotel casinos with lots of activities if that is what you are into. Some OT 9/10's there.

Married. Ole lady wants to bring kids to Disney. I'm not doing Disney again. I've enjoyed Europe before but not sure the weather is going to be nice enough to enjoy it. Anyone been to Portugal this time of year?

Your wife is cool with you popping over to Europe solo for a week while she hauls the kids around Disney? Man, what a set up.

I was going to suggest Andalucia Spain, but Portugal is basically equivalent.

I wouldn't bother with Europe for a week or less, especially this time of the year when the weather is crummy and the daylight hours are short.

If you want to do something international look into Central and South America.

Married and your wife is cool with you taking a solo trip?

Incredible.

Out of curiosity, why aren’t you bringing your wife?

I’ve done this before when my wife took the kids to Disney. I went solo to my tool shed many times while they were gone.

I did a 10 day solo trip pulling my tear drop camper across Utah and western Colorado. Incredible experience hitting the parks, especially capital reef, during low traffic months. Did my best to stay off the grid. It's a powerful trip if you're in to that type of thing.

If solo, why not try London (or Paris) and Normandy? If you are solo and wanting to nerd out on history/museums and eat well, this would be a reasonable 6 or 7 night trip.

If you do this, stay in Bayeux over the other options.

If it were me, I would love some place where I could see a ton of history and be somewhere totally different. Europe would be perfect. See all the sites and enjoy the history and architectural tours. Find off the beat local restaurants. It would be easy to travel around from city to city as well. Hop on a train and go without worrying about the family. I could see myself doing this for 3-4 days but I think I'd get bored alone after that.

I could also see myself doing a road trip. Drive from Oregon to San Diego along the coast. Stopping here and there to enjoy where I am.

This is an odd post though. Your wife is taking the kids to Disney and you're not going but instead going on a solo vacation?

FYI, Disney can be a great time if you accept the fact that you have to do it the Disney way (know when to get certain rides, restaurants, parks, etc.). Personally, I would never miss a chance to experience Disney with my kids. Wonderful time and great memories made for you and them.
