Booked a trip to Sedona in October.

Flying into Phoenix on a Saturday morning, picking up rental car and driving to Sedona.

Booked the Hyatt Pinion Pointe.
That Saturday and Sunday we figured we'd explore Sedona and do a couple hikes.

Monday we're going to drive to the Grand Canyon.

Tuesday we'll check out Flagstaff.

Wednesday we were thinking about Jerome, AZ.

I wanted to try and squeeze in Monument Valley, but it's 4 hrs one way. Same for Antelope Canyon.

Thursday we'll drive back to Phoenix area and spend the night in Tempe. We fly out Friday night.

Any suggestions on things to do in Tempe or Phoenix area with a full day and a half?

Any good suggestions on things that may not be in the travel brochures to do around Sedona?

Jerome is awesome.
Williams and Prescott are worth checking out.

Just came back from Sedona a couple of weeks ago. When you do the GC if you exit using the eastern most entrance/exit which is on hwy 64 (desert view) you will eventually end up on Hwy 89 (Cameron). South takes you back to Flagstaff (about 50 miles, but north takes you to Page (about 75 miles) to possibly catch Antelope Canyon (since you'll be right there). Look it up on google earth.

Search my posts on this board and you'll find my thread/recap of our recent trip.

Make sure that Monument Valley and Antelope Canyon are open for tours. They were not for most of last year. Not sure if they've have ever re-opened as they rely on native american tour guides.

I suggest reversing this. Go in at Desert View (less crowded).

Skip Flagstaff.

Loved Hyatt Piñon Pointe! It’s great!

Yes it is, and don't sleep on continuing up the road past Jerome. Some amazing views towards the top of that mountain. Burgers at the Haunted Hamburger are great.

I’m doing a trip to Sedona in August and have an open day. Sounds like Jerome is worth a day trip. Anything particular to check out?

There is cool shopping the whole town over. They had the best prices on gems, rocks etc about half as much as in Sedona. We bought a bunch of cool polished stones there. The store is next to a ice cream place. The Grand Hotel for a drink and view or lunch, or the Haunted for a burger as previously mentioned. Over all just a nice town on the side of a mountain. Also, take the steps when you can as those hills are steep.

See if this sign is still on the back of this building on the walk back from the JG Hotel! I was looking at the view and said WTF is a 2005 sign for a criminal NOLA Mayor doing posted in Jerome ,AZ

One of the most bizarre and out of place things I have ever seen while traveling. Worse than a real Cajun restaurant in Portland.
