Savannah, GA - Your "to do" list.

I followed the past Savannah thread that was posted in December. Going to Savannah soon, and I am curious on things to do. I have been before, but my prior trip was limited and I was not able to fully explore the surrounding areas.
Staying at Marshall House. Plans are to eat at the Pink House one night. Debating on a Pub Crawl/Ghost tour.
Based on my reading - I am interested in the following (No particular order):
1. Bonaventure Cemetery
2. Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
3. The various parks in town
4. Fort Jackson
Not sure on how strict mask ordinances are out in public walking around, but I know it will be required indoors.
Any other information appreciated.

Go to Fort Pulaski and do the tour. Well worth the time and I am not a Civil War geek by any stretch.

You'll enjoy my hometown. Lots to do.
Tour Wormsloe (an old plantation). Take the walking tour of the downtown squares (weather permitting). I don't know if they're doing it right now, but Forsyth Park has an outdoor market on Saturdays with lots of local vendors.
Fort Jackson is an army base in Columbia SC. I do recommend Fort McAllister in Richmond Hill, just south of Savannah. Also, the Ebenezer community in Effingham County is fascinating.

quote:The first time we went to Savannah we did the Old Town Trolley tour and that's a good way to see and hear about historical and interesting places. That was not long after the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil came out and the driver pointed out places associated with that as well.
Going to Savannah soon
Don't know when "soon" is but if it is March the azaleas might be blooming in Bonaventure Cemetery. It's worth going to even if they are not in bloom. This was March 25.

The Pie Society is a British Bakery and they have sweet and savory items. They may have remolded recently and the complete name now may be The Little Crown by Pie Society. We always like to check it out. It's at the corner of Jefferson and W. Bryan.
Tybee Island is not too much farther than Fort Pulaski. We ate lunch at CoCo's sunset Grille and it was good. We had seafood.

Wormsloe is also worth a visit. We were there about a year ago. It takes a few hours to see. There is not much there but history and the Live Oak lined entrance.

The Homewood Suites by Hilton has a roof top bar. If it is not too cold to sit out there you might see a nice sunset.
Next time we're there I think we'll go the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force and eat at Coreleone's Ttrattoria. We tried to eat there last year but it was crowded and the wait was long.

If it is open have a drink at The Grey.

Def do the Squares tours on Segways they touch on the Cemetary . The night time haunted tour is very good as well. Treylor Park a must do. Masks were for indoors only .If you go to Tybee I recommend the Crab Shack . Very good low country boil and their craft beer is excellent. Have fun

I think we'll be doing this trip in late spring, early summer. We've done Charleston(absolutely loved it). Now we want to go Savannah and Hilton head(golf for me). Let's keep this thread going.

We're looking at going the last weekend of March. How will the golf courses be looking during that time?

we did a walking tour with Savannah Dan - the kids were young then and both still talk about how much they enjoyed him. Nice little town, but I don't think you can sped more than a day or so in the actual town..

Here now. Went to sorry Charlie oysters for oysters and drinks. Walking around. Ducking in here and there on drinks.

Lots of good rooftop bars there in addition to Sorry Charlie’s. The Perry Lane Hotel, the Cotton Sail hotel, The Bohemian, and a couple in the Plant Riverside district come to mind.

Bump.
Wife and I are planning on taking my daughter and her boyfriend there in Oct (21st-25th). We will be driving over from Bham.
Civil war tour is right up my alley. kids want to do the cemetery/ghost deal. Wife is a sucker for rooftop bars.

Do a food tour. It incorporates history and walks around town. Small group when I went ...like 6 to 8 folks. It was great.
We did the Sorrel Weed tour one night plus the additional walk around town after the house. Same guide will take you. The Sorrel Weed house was creepy but fun.
We stayed at Marshall House. Good historic hotel. Central location. Hard to beat. Had free happy hour with wine/champagne each night in the lobby.

Came to post this.
The riverboat cruise is actually pretty good. NOT the dinner cruise.
And don’t buy drinks but it’s nice being on the river and the history lesson is good.
Also the hop on hop off bus is a good deal.
