Son is getting married in September. We're considering helping provide a trip for them. Live in Middle Tennessee. Let's say it'd be a 3-5 day trip. Budget of maybe $3-$5k? Needs to be a "beach location". Factoring in travel time etc. Could be domestic or island or..?

What do you think? Thanks!

Cancun? Probably a direct flight available from Nashville?

Might be dodging hurricanes that time of year.

Fly direct to Cancun. Plenty of reasonably priced all-inclusive options there of varying degrees of niceness.

Cancun, Florida Keys, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico.

Many Caribbean destinations CAN be affordable with some research and planning

All great choices, under $5K for 5 days gives you a ton of options. First, do they have a passport/want to get one? If not offering to pay for that is a great add-on wedding gift. Second, are they opposed to an all-inclusive? If they have no preference would start looking for an adult AI in the Carribean for 4-5 days. Should be able to find a package/deal with flights and trip insurance (hurricane season) for under $5K easily.

In fact took a quick look, some great deals out there since its not peak season.

Friend is in the travel business. He's putting together some package deals just so we'd have a frame of reference for now. Certainly that time of year hurricanes could be an issue. That's what trip insurance is for.

He shared something workable from Aruba, but suggested Cancun and this property specifically along with a Delta package. LINK Seems to have fairly good reviews.

Say it's Cancun. Did you like it? Easy to get to? Any properties you really, really liked?? Thanks!

Have you talked to your son at all? My wife and I went to Europe for 2 weeks for our honeymoon but its a trip we had wanted to do for years together and we saved specifically for that.

Plenty of people don't honeymoon at all or right away even, depending on their work schedule.

I just think it makes sense to talk to your son.

Oh sure. All the time. Failed to mention this might be a Plan B option. We've already booked a combo Viking Cruise on the Danube/week afterwards in Germany for them, but it would be with us. Was originally going to be a 30th birthday surprise, then the wedding, so it'd be a combo trip as we're not made of money. But, issues remain about time off and Thanksgiving plans, so we're working both angles!

Get that's not the "ideal honeymoon" to go with your parents, but it's not being presented as such. We may or may not still help with a short honeymoon trip. Getting our ducks in a row to say "here's what we could do instead..." as conversations progress.

I'd say Jamaica, but it's also peak hurricane season. Any beach location would be a risk that time of year. There are many all inclusive resorts in your price range in the Carribbean including travel. Ususally cheap late summer/fall, but be sure to buy travel insurance in case of a storm.

For $4,300 I purchased this 5 night All-Inclusive package from Costco Travel. Secrets Maroma Beach (South of Cancun). Includes flights, transportation to/from the airport and ocean view suite. Costco also threw in $245 digital shopping card. The resort has been mentioned a lot on the travel board over the years. My brother went last year and loved it.

Costco Travel-Secrets Maroma

Last summer we went to England and rented a car and stayed in multiple places, saw tons of tourist spots. I wanted to to do the opposite this summer and these travel packages did it for me.

Aruba and Curacao are about as close to hurricane proof as you'll get in the Caribbean.

My inlaws just did this cruise and said they were the youngest people on the boat, they're in their early 60's. Most other passengers were 70+.

While likely a cool trip, I don't know if I'd have wanted to spend my honeymoon on a floating retirement home with a bunch of geezers. Just something to consider

Due to Hurricane season in the Caribbean/Cancun side of Mexico, I recommend going to Aruba or western side of Mexico where they don't have as many Hurricane issues- Huatulco, Punta de Mita, Zihuatenejo, Cabo, etc.

Even if there are no hurricanes, it will be very rainy in Cancun and Caribbean in September.

Not a beach location but fly down to San Antonio and stay down on the river. Rent a car an drive up to New braunfels and tube the Guadalupe. Maybe take in gruene hall.

From a geographic standpoint, Aruba, Curaçao, Costa Rica, and the Pacific side of Mexico are so much less likely to have hurricanes or just generally poor weather.

I’m in Costa Rica right now, when Southwest runs those specials, Costa Rica is included. $300 flight round-trip New Orleans to Costa Rica. I’m my wife’s companion pass, so two people round trip for $300 allowed us to get a nice all inclusive resort for the week. There are a lot of options for excursions.

Flight time Houston to Liberia is under 3 hours

How are the beaches? Suggestions on accommodations? Do you like the AI resort there?
