Can you renew your passport with your expired passport or do you need all the documents?

What do mean "all the documents"?

Have you tried to renew it online?

Just follow info on website. I believe you have up to a year to renew expired.

You don't need to submit birth certificate, etc. Just fill out the renewal form and send in your new photos and money. I just renewed mine last year.

Damn, Just read the rules…Looks like I’d have to get a new one, it’s expired but issued more than 15 years ago

If I’m not mistaken, if your passport is within 90 days from expiring, it cannot be used. They will not allow you to leave the US.

not if you renew on-line. But they do cancel your passport in their system.
