Has anyone been to NYC lately? I’ve heard you gotta be vaccinated to go inside a lot of places. Is that enforced everywhere? What about masks at Broadway? Is there anything closed?

Just got back.

Nothing really closed that I saw. Restaurants - yes they will check the vaccine card although the level of rigor varies place to place from a glance to a compare to ID.

Stores - most strongly encourage you to wear mask. Some mandate it. Never asked for a vaccination card at a store.

Broadway - this was the strictest. Vac card and mask.

On the streets - it was 50/50 leaning no wearing. Obviously no mandate.

That stuff was a bit of a pain but I still loved it

minor annoyances at the door that take about 30 seconds. Oh the tyranny I encountered.

Just got back after a great three weeks ... went to several shows, concerts and tons of sightseeing/museums. Everything is open and the energy is great. Perfect time to go.

Had the best thai meal outside of Thailand at a place called Fish Cheeks. Unreal.

The wife and I went last week. We are both vaccinated.

Every restaurant checked our cards, we had them out and ready.

Subway requires mask but no enforcement. We didn't wear ours.

No stores checked vaccine cards, some asked us to wear a mask.

Walking down the street a few random people had masks, but most were maskless. Lots of energy in the city

Broadway shows checked vaccine card and ID, supposed to wear a mask the entire show. Once the lights went down, most people around us took masks off.

We only encountered one "maskhole" and it was as we were getting on the subway. He was exiting the train and yelled "MASK" at my wife and me. We ignored him.

I feel sorry for people that let their personal politics get in the way of them enjoying their own lives. I’m a conservative but I can appreciate how awesome NYC is and didn’t let the politics ruin my trip.

this. I will leave worrying about "the tyranny" to the fear mongering and trashy that would rather kick it around their hometown instead of seeing other places. Matter of fact .. was in Quebec this weekend and they had the same tyrannical practices in place. Really ruined the weekend.

I feel sorry for people that let their personal politics govern everyone else in an attempt to control their lives. See how that works?

The authoritarians will keep pushing the 'minor inconveniences' until someone pushes back. Not spending money somewhere is a good first step. The other steps tend to be violent.

Crowds are starting to come back, vaccine requirement is similar to New Orleans with restaurants and events. Kids under 12 don't need to show vaccination, unless you are taking them to Broadway (you will need to have negative rapid test -within 6 hours- or PCR - within 72 hours. All have to be masked at shows.

A number of restaurants and bars have not reopened and there is a staffing shortage at those that have...this is also causing early closings too.

Overall, most everything is somewhat back to normal.

All the adults going are vaccinated so that’s fine. I just wasn’t sure about kids now that they are pushing the vaccine on them. My youngest is 3 and I doubt he will wear a mask at a Broadway show but having to test them just to get in seems ridiculous. We will likely do a weekend of sightseeing and museums without Broadway if that’s the case.

I will be there for Christmas so this is good info and appreciated.

Good to know shopping does not require proof.

How is the outdoor dining during the colder months? Anybody have any info or tips on that?

Due to COVID, the vast majority of restaurants built enclosed outdoor dining structures, which help protect from the elements. The enclosures are pretty nice and decorated, most seemed to have heaters, so it's relatively comfortable. However, Lucali in Brooklyn didn't have enclosed outdoor dining so it got pretty cold.

I feel sorry for the idiots who enable segregation and discrimination and support forcing people to put something in their bodies. You probably supported the yellow stars in Nazi Germany as well.

Visited for a week mid-Nov. NYC is back and it's fantastic to see. I thought the outdoor dining enclosures add a nice vibe to the city as well, neighborhoods feel more alive at night. Enjoy!

FWIW I went to a few places between yesterday afternoon and today, and only 1 asked for vaccine card and it was compared to my ID. It was the only full service sit down place, the coffee shop and quick service place didn’t.

No masks required inside except elevators.

The trains require them but I did see a lot of people without them.

Actually sitting in Newark right now and see a few people without mask.
