Carmel is amazing. One of my favorite towns. Nepenthe is a great restaurant with a view near Big Sur. Right off Highway 1. If the weather is nice it's tough to beat.

Skip Napa. Spend every SF second in SF; so much to see, do... so little time. You will enjoy!

Drive up to the top of Mt Tam for sunset. Great view of the Bay Area, as you are above everything. If the fog rolls in, you are on top of it and it’s a cool view seeing the Trans Am building and Golden Gate Bridge poking thru it. Also, if you look towards the Pacific, you’ll see a great sunset on the horizon.

I’ll second House of Prime Rib! Also, the Cliff House, along the coast is a great place for a drink at sunset.

We made a similar trip last year and our favorite part was the drive south from Carmel. I'd also recommend grabbing lunch at the Bench in Pebble Beach after your bike tour. Get a table outside, it overlooks 18 at pebble beach with the bay in the background.

Alvarado St. Brewery is really good if you like craft beer.

Love craft beer. We’ll check it out.

Thanks for all the suggestions! We are all set on food.

Any recommendations on things to do in San Fran or Carmel?

Liholiho Yacht Club - Had a delicious meal at the bar about a month ago. Sort of Hawaiian meets California cooking with some twists. Kung Pao sweetbreads, fried oysters and beef carpaccio, and this awesome dessert called a Baked Hawaiian. Which was a pineapple and coconut flavored baked Alaska, and it ruled.

loved this place ... Slanted Door is great too.
I love the classic vibe of the Taddich Grill for a happy hour Martini. Food isn't great, but it's timeless. Also love to stop into the R+G Lounge in Chinatown for a salt and pepper crab at the bar. Unreal.

While you're in SF, I'd enjoy SF. Four days is not too much, and you will just have driven a bunch in Big Sur & up to SF. So don't drive off to Napa....enjoy what SF has to offer: the Mission (Tartine Bakery, Bi-Rite creamery & store), the incredible Ferry Building Farmer's Market, Coit Tower/the Filbert St steps (look for the wild parrots that live on the hill), Liguria Bakery & Tony's Pizza Napolitana in North Beach, dim sum at City Lights....
Many excellent recommendations in this thread for that region. Just one of the most beautiful areas I've been to. We like to stay in North Beach area when in the city and the gardens on the Filbert Steps are incredible in the summer but I do not know how they be this time of the year. Whatever you do...bring a jacket/cost as it gets very cool at night.

We did napa wine train and I was glad I did it while in San Fran since I am not sure when I may get back to napa. The day trip was perfect.

Hard to see it all, but Big Sur and Hwy 1 along there is amazing. We stayed several nights at Treebones Resort and stayed in a Yurt. Their sushi bar overlooks the Pacific. They also have another dining area with other food. Went down to Hearst Castle before we turned inland. Hearst is amazing.

We are considering doing the wine train tour as well from SF. Still up in the air on it.

It’s pretty touristy and doesn’t stop at the wineries. That said, the food is good and views are great, plus wine.
