This is relatively nothing compared to some but it’s all I have thankfully
I was in the runway in Atlanta headed to Boston on 9/11. Pilot came on and said we were heading back to the gate.
Weird thing is that I was watching CNN at the gate and didn’t think much of it as we boarded.

In London we walked into a Muslim protest March. Probably no danger but it was unnerving.
At Mardi Gras years ago we were sitting on the sidewalk on Canal when this guy comes running by and trips over my daughter. Right behind him are police with guns drawn.

2 stories, mine not so crazy but 2nd is my Grandma's.
Hiking with family at Glacier National Park whe I was like 14. Walking up a long trail up to the glacier. We were walking around a curve in the mountain. So we couldn't see far. Was like going over a hill but from the side. Was just a basic slope down with lots of plants no trees right there. We can't see far but realize they have people about 100 yards maybe less Infront of us waving their arms, no yelling. We stop and try to figure out what is going on and see the big arse grizzly bear like 10 feet off the trail and about 75 feet in front of us. We all stop and my cousin freaks and bolts back down the trail. We all just back up slow and the grizzly just wanders around eating berries and goes down the mountain.
This was probably 79 or so. Grandpa use to fly for an oil company and they went live in South Africa with them for a while. They had a fenced in compound with armed security where everyone working from the USA stayed. They were told only go from the compound to the oil company, if you hit a goat, chicken or even a person to keep driving straight to the oil company. DO NOT STOP ! Well my grandma was nice and friendly she would bring the security guards food she cooked a lot of times. She goes looking for the guard 1 morning to find his body in the bushes and head cut off. She grabbed their shite and drove straight to the oil company. They tried to say my grandma did it and wanted her for murder. My grandpa flew them out of there a few hours later after they seen the locals were not going to let up. The air strip was behind the fence with the oil company. They flew to an airport and jumped on the first flight back to the USA.

Another scary story was back when the London Tube bombings happened. We landed in Copenhagen the morning it happened and heard people in the passport control line talking about it. We had friends living in London and were planning on ending our trip there and flying home from London. Our friends were freaked out and told us not to come as everything was shut down. We did delay going, just spent a few extra days in Amsterdam, but had to get to London to fly home. By the time we got there things were open again and we did ride the tube. I told my wife if I say get off then don't argue with me. As we would pull into stations I would scan the waiting crowd, yes I was profiling. I don't think I ever saw a potential terrorist but I was on point whenever we took the tube.

does rounding a bend in Glacier while hiking and having a grizzly about 50 yards up the trail count as an unsafe event?

In the late 1980’s, a buddy of mine and I were in West Berlin and decided to walk over and spend the day in East Berlin. We were walking through the customs office by Checkpoint Charlie. It was set up like a buffet line and the first person made you exchange something like $30 of western currency for their garbage money. Then there were some guys who would ask questions and inspect the stuff you were carrying. The guy who was 2 people in front of us had a conversation in German with an officer and was then directed to go into a separate room so he did. The guy right in front of us was carrying a magazine and an officer leafed through it. I remember seeing a picture of Prince Charles in an article. The guard told him the magazine wasn’t allowed in East Berlin so he had to throw it away in West Berlin. That meant he had to leave the building and exchange more money. The first guard opened the door to the separate room and the first guy was standing there in his underwear. I thought they were going to mess with us but they let us through after just a few questions.
Another time but in Juarez, my driver dropped me off at a customs office where I had to buy a work permit for the day. That went fine but when I came out of the office, the driver and truck were nowhere to be found. This was before cellphones and I had no idea what to do so I just stayed put. The driver pulled up a minute later and said the cops told him he couldn’t just park and wait so he did the block.
I was in London when there were some IRA bombings in the Tube, I was stranded in Europe alone because of 9/11, and got caught up in a riot between students and police in Germany.
My New Orleans story…I was with a work team in the French Quarter late at night. I was the only one from the area. It was very late and we decided to walk to/along the river. I realized we had walked too far downriver and the people around us were not tourists. I actually had the feeling like the hair on the back of my neck standing. Everyone else was laughing and having fun. I let them know we were in danger and we needed to backtrack. Strange feeling I’ve never had before or since.

Was in Cabo this year. Turned onto a one way road just as a motorcycle cop, looking like he just got off the set of Road Warrior, came over the hill. He pulled us over and asked for my ID. Pretending not to know any english (except monetary denominations) he communicated that we owed $500 for the violation (wife knows a bit of spanish). He was not going to give my license back unless we paid. We haggled with him as locals were walking by looking at us like we were going to disappear. He finally took $50, but left us feeling violated. We were also relieved because it could have been much worse and he could have done pretty much anything once he had my ID.

Was all I had for me. If not for the people waving I'm pretty sure we wouldn't of seen him till next to him. It was still all bushes right there.

Traveling with family as a teenager around 1990. Camping in a tent near rim of Grand Canyon. No major weather warnings back then so we just thought it would be a regular rainy night. Rained hard for an hour so water all around the tent on the ground.
Storm gets out of control and finally the lightning stuck close enough to make every hair on mine and my brothers body stand up.
Hauled tail to the car and rode out the storm in the car for another 2 hours.

This summer I tried to summit Mt Siyeh with my fiance. We were the only two people on the mountain and there’s no defined trail, straight way finding. We were almost through the rock climbing part of the mountain with maybe two more ledges to maneuver up before we could hike the rest of the summit. While looking for a good way up, a giant grizzly that looked like the size of a fricken mini van pops out on the top ledge. It hears us sliding around in the scree and immediately comes off the ledge to our level and starts coming straight towards us. We pulled out our bear spray and started yelling at it. There was literally no where to go, we were on a cliff edge. It got within 30 yds of us and stopped. After a few seconds of figuring us out, it turned and went the other way. The wind was blowing back in our faces about 25mph so idk if bear spray would have did anything for us besides take us out too. The speed at which something that big came down those ledges was terrifying. That was the worst feeling I ever had in my life, we immediately started back down, looking up the entire time waiting for this thing to come back. We realized how stupid we were after for going up there without a group and not even telling anyone our plans. They would still be looking for us if we never came home. We also knew about bears on the mountain from watching videos of other people making the climb, but they were always far off across the mountain in the videos.
This was a quick picture I snapped when it first came out before it saw us
This is where he came down to even with us in just a few seconds

It does when you're their favorite food.

Panama city for both. We went to the very sketchy neighborhood in Panama city because they had a few cool markets. We were walking around the market and two guys started following us. They got in between my buddy and I (were a ton of people) to split us up. I turn around and can't see my buddy so bust arse 10 feet back. Those two dudes shoved him into a store and tried to rob him. He fought back and they ran thankfully
Then when we were trying to find the metro to get out of there we were about to cut through an empty alley way. And older person came out of nowhere and stopped us before we could walk any farther. They shook their head no and probably saved our asses from something really bad happening

I was in Hawaii on my honeymoon a few years back and there was a Tsunami warning. Driven by a 8.2 magnitude earthquake in Alaska.

2005 London bombings. Was at some of the same locations that got bombed three days prior. Seems like they had just been awarded the Olympics when it happened. My group had moved on to Paris fortunately.

This one probably not too dangerous, but scared the shat out of me. First time in China and was walking from my hotel to Tiananmen Square to take a look around before starting my work week. Out of nowhere, a soldier runs up screaming at me. Of course, I have no idea what he's saying. Finally he screams "passport!". I had left it in the room, but scrambled and found my MS driver's license. He talks with another for a while and finally hands it back to me and signals me to move on.
The only time I've ever legitimately thought I was in deep shite in the wild was driving from Vegas to GC to Zion. Got rerouted due to a rock slide and ended up many miles down a forest service road and almost got stuck. No cell service, food or water. I put that rental car through hell to get us out of there. Much respect to the Nissan Rogue.
My Garmin InReach always travels with me now. I certainly was not prepared that day.
Got rerouted near Iran on a flight into Dubai when the oil tankers were attacked in 2019. The pilot's message was a bit alarming when we had no idea what was going on.

I have two incidents.
The only time I felt unsafe was actually in New Orleans. We had shot over to New Orleans for a 3 day weekend with the wife and 7 year old daughter at the time. So it was like 2005. We had been to a ton of Saints games and always left in a crowd, but we attended a Pelicans/Cavs game with Labron. It was in the midweek and we were staying at the Days Inn on Canal. We walked over and were walking back.
Man when we left that was a long and thankfully lonely walk. But just walking in between all the buildings and alleyways at 10:30pm with my small daughter and wife in tow.
Second one we were in NYC. We had gone up to see Jeff Lynne at Radio City. We actually stayed on the Jersey side at the Hilton attached to Penn Station. So we took the train into the city. We left the concert and boarded the train at Penn Station (NY) around 11pm. I want to say that Penn Station is around 39th Street. Once we got off the train in Jersey we were getting back to the hotel and found out that they had been a pipe bomb that went off around 42nd street. on the same cross street so like 3 blocks South of Penn Station. The next day there was one at a train station in NJ.
