My 15 yr old boys and I are road tripping from Minnesota to Baton Rouge for the Oct 2 LSU vs Auburn Game.
Any suggestions/advise for how we go about getting the best LSU game day experience? This is a bucket list event for us, so I’d like to get it right.

Take a picture in front of the Tiger statue. Kinda lame I know but I always took a picture every game with my son.

Does anyone know if the Travel Board is where questions from visitors to Tiger Stadium usually get posted?

OP might be missing a lot of recommendations if it should be posted elsewhere.

ETA: BlackCoffeeKid already answered this.

May be better served posting this on the Tiger Rant board as well.

Also wouldn't hurt Googling some form of "LSU GameDay Experience Tigerdroppings". I'm sure there's been plenty of threads on this before.

Gameday can be a wild experience. I would hit up a few things.

1) Start at Chimes and eat if you can get a table. They start early with brunch and go all day.
2) Stop by the student Union.
3) Go to Mike's cage, gift shop, PMAC Shaq statue-They are all on the North side of the stadium.
4) Walk through Campus and check out different tailgates. Ask what people are cooking, and you'll likely get an invite to stay after you tell them your story.
5) Go to Greek amphitheater to see the band and cheerleaders warm up
6) See the Band and team walk down victory hill. (Again, Northside of the stadium)

This all happens inside 1sq/mi. Its all very easy to do.

Assuming we don't totally crap the bed against Miss St, should be a great time... 8 pm kickoff... weather in October is beautiful. First big home game of the year.

As said previously make sure to go by and see Mike in his cage and watch the band and team walk down Victory Hill.

Check out the home page of TD the day before or the day of the game, they will have a link to the Times of Interest that will tell you what time the team and band go down the hill.

Wear your Golden Gopher gear (assuming that's who you pull for).

Folk won't crack on you at all about it, it'll be interesting to them and potentially get you & your boys fed at some tailgates.

Don't wear Auburn colors, people will crack hard on you and you might end up being served at someone's tailgate.

Hopefully the weather is nice. Supposed to be beautiful this weekend. Eagle tastes kinda like chicken.

Just curious - do you have ties to LSU or Auburn? Seems like an odd destination trip for someone from Minnesota.

With that said, you should have a great time. You will be welcomed and fed well at any tailgate you stop at. LSU on a big game day in the fall (when it's not 95 degrees) is a special thing. Enjoy and be sure to come back and give us the details.

Been to Oklahoma State, Purdue, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Michigan & Alabama. Trying to step it up every year…thought LSU would make sense for the next stop. To date, WI is the best experience (though it pains me to say), followed by ND, Iowa & MI. Alabama experience rated low due to the douche bag effect (entitled & stand offish). We are very excited to see how LSU does it.

Walk around where the folks are tailgating before the game. If you see some food (gumbo, jambalaya, etc.) that looks good to you tell them you are from Minnesota and ask them what it is. They will likely give you some.
Do not miss the band and team coming down victory hill and try to get a spot across from Tiger Stadium for maximum impact.
Make sure to be in your seats 15 to 20 minutes before kickoff for the pregame performance by the band and to see team run onto the field.
Some lucky kids you’ve got there.

The Union was unfortunately closed to everyone last game.

Walk through the heart of campus. It's a really cool experience to start at the Parade Ground (home of the fraternity tailgates and associated throngs of female coeds which should get your 15 year olds' pulse going) and then to walk through the quad (where tailgating is not allowed), then to the Greek theater and Indian Mounds (which predate the pyramids) and then down Victory Hill to Mike's cage. Just looking around and seeing the oak tree canopies is a distinctly LSU experience. And then you'll get to soak in the sheer mass of people and number of tailgates. Unlike most schools I've been to, it's not just a bunch of people with sandwich trays and cold chicken strips, most tailgates will be cooking food on the spot and the smells combine for an awesome experience.

I agree with another poster who said that wearing your Golden Gopher gear will enhance your tailgate invites!

Watch the band come down the hill and play to the crowd. Team walk in.

So….How was the experience? LSU lost so that dampened the post game experience.
Some paratroopers parachuted onto the field before the game so the kids probably loved that.

I wasn't at the game, but I saw quite a few people comment both here on TD and on FB that the atmosphere, crowd and enthusiasm was definitely lacking compared to years past. I'm hoping OP's experience wasn't a total let down that didn't live up to the hype.
