Just curious. How many times does one go down the mountain each day as a general rule.
You are basically over $200/day, so what are you taking 5-6 runs.

Everyone will have a different answer to this. If it's just me or I'm with one other person, I can get 15-20 runs in. I imagine with a family and lots of stopping/starting on the slopes, you're probably around 10 runs. Also depends on what time you start (830am vs 10am) and end your day (1pm vs lifts closing). Last thing will be how your legs are feeling after that many runs

Throw in stopping for beers and lunch.
I carry alcohol and my lunch in my backpack but I'm cheap and I want to get my runs in.

Park City for the dates we are looking at. Yes, one of the most expensive weekends
We're going to Park City for Mardi Gras / Presidents Day but are not skiing on Saturday or Sunday and paid $347 per adult and $180 for our daughter for a 4 day Epic Pass. You really have to plan in advance to save some money but it's definitely possible.

For that price, my kids will never have a ski trip.

Nowhere has objectively ‘cheap’ ski tickets now. You’re not going to get less than $100 tickets at any ski resort right now.
curious about colorado, but are there less-expensive options anywhere? not fancy resorts, but hills with several runs?
rotarun in hailey and little ski hill in mccall both run about 20 dollars for a single-day ticket. bogus (30 minutes from downtown boise), tamarack, brundage, and soldier mountain (all within 2 hours of boise) run about 60-80.
of course sun valley will cost you 200 plus. but that is a world-famous resort. i guess the difference is that most of the ski spots in CO are destination type resorts and can ask and get those prices?

Snow skiing is out pricing itself just like golf has
Unfortunately no it isn't. They are packing as many people into these resorts as ever

Yep. People pay a small fortune for these trips.

If you want the whole ski in/ski out condo experience at Vail or Steamboat or Aspen during the holidays maybe but skiing can be as expensive as you want really. If you plan ahead there are deals to be had at places like Keystone and Crested Butte.

The problem though is it’s like planning Disney. It’s damn near impossible to plan well without experience, and skiing really takes quite a bit. So for anyone getting into it it’s really hard to go cheap.
To answer the above, the biggest issue with lesser resorts/ ski areas is that generally speaking they are in areas that are generally one or 2 things; hard to get to and unreliable snow fall. So if you aren’t local or have a private jet, it’s not easy for someone from the South to get to.

I thought Sun Valley was expensive at $70/day when I lived there in the 00's.
Haven't skied since 2012 except for the magic carpet run in Friso a couple of years ago. To me it isn't worth even 75 a day for a lift ticket.
Would definitely recommend Brundage or some of the more remote hills in Utah if people truly want to ski.

Im sure its been mentioned but this is where Loveland, Monarch, and Cooper shine. Cooper's terrain is easy compared to the other two, but they aint especially hard to get to and reasonably priced.
Or fly into Grand Junction and check out Powderhorn. Lift tickets under $100, on holidays.

I’m going to Snowbird in late April with a couple friends. We got a lodge room for $455 a night that includes lift tickets. Not sure what the conditions will be like but I thought that seemed like a pretty good deal.

With the rates they are going for, we thought of buying the season pass and going for Mardi Gras 2023 and then going again early-mid December 2023 to make it worth it. Does that make any financial sense? Compared to going Mardi Gras 2023 and then again for Mardi Gras 2024.
Posted on 1/2/23 at 11:35 am to martiallaw
That would be two different seasons so I don’t think it’d work because they’re season passes rather than annual passes. You could do December 2023 and Mardi Gras 2024 on one pass.
