Last Minute Domestic Vacay

Long story short, supposed to be flying to Mexico with a group on 7/22. Made the mistake of paying $400+ to a passport expediting company on 6/28 instead of just going through the normal route for our passport renewals. As of today, our renewal applications still aren’t showing up in the system. Friends who went the normal right and paid for expedited renewal have already gotten their passports. Rushmypassport.com, which we used through Fed Ex, is apparently a joke and it’s likely we won’t get our passports. We’re working with Graves office but at this point our applications are lost and we are hoping to get an appointment in Nola Mon-Wed of next week. This isn’t a “you should have had your shite together and applied for your passport on time” thread. This is a, our flights are non-refundable, but they are transferable….so, come Thursday if we don’t have our passports, we plan to get on a plane going somewhere. Give me your top U.S. destinations to go without your kids. Napa is at the top of our list, but since it will be last minute, I’m looking for options to explore.
