My brother lives in Panama City and I went down to help him get the roof back on his house. He works at “The Pearl” in Rosemary Beach and that company owns several properties up and down 30A. They put my brother and me (and two other families) up in a $1M+ beach house about 5 miles from the west end of 30A (I know, subtle brag).

I never knew 30A was like that. It is what a beach town should look like. There are no “Surf Style” or gas stations with a ton of blown up inflatables for sale in front of it.
Rosemary Beach is simply stunning. It looks like some village in France or Germany.

We may vacation there next year.

Yea, no shite. You eat at anywhere cool?

Pescado is a rooftop restaurant on the beach side of 30a in Rosemary. Rediculously good.

NEAT in Aly's Beach is a great bar too.

We only ate at Shunk Gulley because it was the closest place to where we stayed. By the time we got to 30A (1.5 hour drive from PC because of storm), we just wanted something quick and hot. Granted we only had burgers, oysters, and tuna poke, it was at damn good, especially the poke.

Edit...
I just realized I said hot, even tho poke and oysters are ice cold. I cannot explain how unbelievably good the poke was.

I tend to like lower class “beach bum” style beach towns. The water is horrible, but Port Aransas is like that. 30A looks to fancy for me

Just go down to Dune Allen or Grayton, they're on 30a and not uppity at all.

Disagree. They're still uppity, just not as uppity as Seaside, Rosemary, Watercolor, etc. That whole area is 90% about being seen. Which is fine. I just prefer less congested, old school beach places.

Old Seagrove is great, as are the others I mentioned. Best, closest beaches there are...period. As far as being seen...yea, you dress the family up once or twice in the week and go out for lunch in Seaside/Alys/Rosemary. Otherwise, you go out and get fresh seafood to cook and you enjoy time with your family in the rental house.

Haha!

It’s middle class nice with a million teenagers running around.
It’s not Monte Carlo.

It's a good thing too, those beaches are fricking terrible.

Exactly. 30-A isn't that cheap for a traditional "family beach vacation" but it's not some wealth contest. Half of metro Atlanta has been vacationing there since the early 90s.

Do a ton of strivers go to 30-A? Yes. I mean, Dallas people found it long ago, so it was bound to happen. But does it feel like you're around a bunch of strivers while there? Not really, IMO. Honestly, the Havana bar at the top of the Pearl is really the only place I've found that has much of a douchey quality.

Your brother lives in PC and you’ve never been to 30A?

Destin, Seaside and those areas were very lucky that storm missed them

We use to have a home there. Traffic got to the point where it was no longer enjoyable so we sold and purchased in Miramar. Sure the traffic is bad, but there are several ways in and out rather than just one.

We still make our regular trips to our favorite spots (Stinkys, Cuve 30A, Buds, Café 30A, etc....) but I rarely dress up. I'm at the beach, I'm wearing flops, shorts and a t-shirt.

We so rarely drive when in Old Seagrove since you can just walk the dirt roads into Seaside. Again, if we drive it's an after beach morning, shower up and take a ride. Grab some steamed shrimp, crab cakes, steaks, whatever...after a grouper sandwich from George's or the like.

By dressed up I just meant 'coast casual'...similar to how we dress to go to the yacht club here in BSL.

Or at least a pale, Disneyfied cookie cutter imitation one one, anyway.

Carillon Beach is what you are looking for. It's in between PCB and 30A.

That does not look like a place I'd want to stay on a beach vacation. The photo I posted is from the bottom left group of buildings. It was nice for a date night.
