Just got back from Banff. A few quick observations.

1. Most beautiful place I’ve ever seen, bar none. The town was great. Did the gondola. Drove up the Icefields Parkway. Can’t wait to go back.

2. So. Many. Foreigners. I heard more languages than at one of y’all’s Pentecostal churches. And Asians by the tens of thousands…. And don’t even get me started on Indians (dot not feather). They brought their extended families and spent money. Very polite people.

3. The kids that work there are all imports as well, from other Commonwealth countries (UK, Australia, New Zealand). They get visas really easily and flock there to work. At almost every single restaurant I ate at, I was waited on by a hot, lithe (usually blonde) Australian girl. Someone told me that all these kids go to Banff to wait tables, snowboard, smoke pot, and frick.

We were there in July. That matched our experience.

I had to keep reminding myself that I was a foreigner too.

Canada must really promote visiting the country in India.

The food was awesome. We toured a few farms with multiple silos and lots of cattle. Wish we would have known Calgary Stampede dates coincided with our dates. Our Red Bus to the Sun had some rain that day. We did gondolas and several boat floats on lakes & Bow River, Glacier Park, Lake Moraine, Lake Louise Waterton Park & Maligne Lake. Beautiful!!

According to my Canadian friends, Canadians didnt
t want to return to work after COVID, their situation is far more dire than ours.

I’m not very smart bc I’m still trying to figure out how not to work and have money. Kudos to those smarter than me.

Those wildlife crossing overpasses are some of the coolest things I've seen. There is probably one every 20 miles on the Trans-Canada.

I really want to go to Banf. Sounds great.

How long would you recommend going?

Let’s put it this way. I had two days unencumbered by obligations (I was there for a conference), and I only scratched the surface. I would say 4-5 days at a minimum. Rent a car and there is no limit to where you can go.

We did a week in June. Stayed in Canmore. Glad we did, not as crowded as Banff. Hit the Icefields Parkway, hiked Athabasca glacier, fished Lake Minnewanka, golf at Banff Springs, Bow River, Grassi Lakes; and of course Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, and a few other side trips. And lots of hiking. I’m ready to go back.

Similar experience here - Banff was incredible. Jasper was very cool as well and actually I preferred it in atmosphere. We went early so some of the lakes were frozen over. Personally I’d go back early again as you beat the crowds.
