We'll take 14 days getting to Mt. Desert Island, ME...then two nights camping in Acadia followed by several nights of luxury in Bar Harbor.

We usually go west, but it's time to do New England

Two out of every three nights will be spent in a tent

We start with humble beginnings from Louisiana to the Georgia coast on day one, then make our left turn.

Did a 2 week camping trip though New England when I was a kid. It was a great trip that I still remember many, many years later.

When are you going?
We drove there from NC a couple of years ago in August. We were gone about 2 weeks but no tents.

EDIT: Oh, I see you are going in the summer.
Weather should be nice; it was a little warm when we were there in late August and the locals were complaining but we didn’t think it was that bad.

What is your route from GA to ME & back to LA; I may have some recs.

Portland >>>>>>>BH

I could spend a week in Portland. A night in BH is enough. Boothbay Harbor is worth a night or 2.

Food recs in Portland:
Central Provisions
Street & Co
Eventide
Duckfat

Bar Harbor is tiny, but nice. Don't step on any plants while in the park are they will hunt you down.

We will be spending two nights in Portland as well. Duck fat seems like the place to go. Thanks!

The goal in Bar Harbor will be sheer relaxation after much camping, driving, and hiking (not to say those things aren’t relaxing too). But think reading, sitting by the pool, a bit of walking, etc.

Co-sign on all of these...also Fore Street for a splurge dinner & Novare Res for craft beer

While on that thought...breweries:
Definitive/Battery Steele/Austin Street/Foundation (All around Allagash)
Bissell Bros.
Maine Beer Co. (Freeport)

Battery Steele is my favorite brewery (best neipa IMO)

Oxbow if I feel like getting weird

I thought Bissel was a little overhyped

Mash tun is a great bar near central provisions and street & co. Very friendly locals atmosphere with top notch beer selection. Think cheers but smaller

Great trip. I was on top of Cadillac Mountain in the Acadia National Park when the news came that Les Miles was fired. That was in October and it was 37 degrees on top of the mountain. If you are going anytime soon, be prepared to freeze your butt off in that tent, but that is a beautiful part of the country and you will have a great time.

Great!

GA coast, NC coast (near Wilmington), then Shenandoah Valley, Gettysburg, Catskills, Adirondacks, MA coast, then Portland and Bar Harbor.

Don't know about the return trip.

I once made this trip in college and made the worst mistake of taking the George Washington bridge in NYC.

You owe it to yourself to do Street and Co. If you want to loop our of Maine for a bit, the White mtns in NH are great.

I hope to never get within 60 miles of any major city.
