The Hilton in Montego Bay is good for kids, and you can get it all inclusive for 60k points/night. I say it's worth it if you are bringing kids.

And the all inclusives at Montego Bay are family friendly, but Ochos Rios is a much better destination.

Thank god the first rest stop had some smoke for sale. The wife was still zonked from her airplane xanax, but I was very awake and very aware of the close encounter with death we were experiencing.

The ganja helped a bit.

We stayed at the Hilton Rose Hall in MB for a day. It wasnt bad, but it seemed a little old compared to other all inclusives Ive been too. Very nice beach though. they have a large resort style pool with long , winding slides and a lazy river. I did try the jerk chicken there and it was pretty good.

Second only to Haiti-and I will grant that it is a distant second-Jamaica is the worst destination in the Caribbean.

We went after Easter and yes while it looks scary around town, our bus driver told us the laws there are so strict when it comes to crimes against tourist that no one will even think about messing with tourist. That's their biggest income is tourism, if peopled stopped going there, the country would collapse.

We were on the plane ride with a couple bringing their younger kids and they said they had been a few times with children and really enjoyed it. We also saw several families at the Jamaica airport. Personally we stayed at a couples only all inclusive and with the 600+ dollar a piece plane ticket that would be the only way I'd go is just my and my wife.

The place is a giant slum, but you'll probably be safe. Every local there moonlights as a taxi driver, and most of them are pretty funny to talk to. I say do it...I never felt unsafe there even for a second....but I'm half Jamaican so maybe I get a free pass. Oh, and any weed locals sell to you will probably be terrible.

No.

They are overtly racist people.

I won't be going back, ever.

I would consider going to Singapore, vandalizing a car, and receiving 6 lashes by a prison guard over stepping foot on Jamaican soil.

Looks like I'll scratch this one off the list of places to go. I was hoping to find a resort hotel destination to eliminate any outside possibilities, but it looks like I may be better served looking and going elsewhere.

Dude don't listen to these Padu's that go to gulfport for vacations...get on some legitimate travel forums.

NO, Jamaica is G H E T T O. Bahamas are bad too, but they have nothing on Jamaica. Jamaica is best observed from a walled compound with a nice beach.

I mean, yes and no. The locals are pretty much all devastatingly poor, but I'm a firm believer in the golden rule as a tourist. If you treat them nice, they'll treat you nice, and everyone will have a gay old time (generally! nothing is guaranteed!)

I'm also a firm believer in the rule of "If you're looking for trouble, you can find it." I've been smart, confident, man of the people tourist, and I've also been idiot-rube tourist in many places.

As an aside, I know people rag on Jamaica a lot, and some of it is deserved, but it's not Thunderdome. Ask anyone about pickpockets and scam artists around Europe and South America. There is a criminal element everyhwere, but there's a difference between being at risk and being irrationally afraid.

A friend and I walked with my kid from the private beach all the way to the Pork Pit with no problems. Tons of very nice police on foot along the way. Took pictures with several. Locals weren't pushy with their wares like other places.

Wife, her aunt, and wheel chair-bound grandmother went on their own to some flea markets. The locals flooded them with attention but no problems, either. Nice people--even pushed around the grandmother.

Wife's other aunt and husband went further inland for a river excursion. No problems for them, either. Liked Montego so much that they got married there a couple years later.

Loved seeing the kids coming home from school dressed in their uniforms. Looked nicer than some students in US schools.

The taxi driver offered us drugs on the way back, but I would've been disappointed to not have the full Jamaican experience before leaving.

Absolutely beautiful water.

Montego Bay is like the Panama City of Jamaica. It's kinda trashy, still touristy, but the nicest beaches are a short drive away.

Go to Negril and you'll fall in love with Jamaica.
