I think Miami and Las Vegas are way worse.

Atlanta, GA (ATL) I don’t know, I can’t think of many better to connect through honestly.

This.

Never had a problem there. And if I’ve got a long layover, can’t think of any airport I’d rather be stuck at.

Atlanta is the worst airport in the history of aviation.

I'll never understand this. ATL is probably my favorite airport to connect through in the US. The ladder-esque air train system is incredibly easy to navigate, to the point that it's the only airport I can think of in which I will go to a different terminal simply because I prefer the food options there.

Have I missed something in all these years?

Not even close. MIA is far worse (unless you are flying AA). Dulles C and D are AWFUL.Newark always deserves a mention for awful majors.

Always fly Burbank or Ontario when flying to L.A. area if at all possible.

MIA is the worst airport that I have had to deal with. Don't understand the hate on ATL either, never had an issue there.

As stated in the big "worst airport thread". If connecting through, its not bad. Its if you have to leave and get a rental that its a pain. Plane Train and Rental Car Train

The biggest issue is the horseshoe setup which turns into a traffic nightmare if you are stuck in one of the far terminals.

Easily the biggest annoyance, IMO. Trying to get to Terminal 6 for United is a joke.

Just the delays from my experience. Flew through there for about 4 years straight. I honestly don’t ever remember catching a flight that left on time. Many times I had to run to my connection.

From the downvotes I’m getting I guess everyone else agrees with you!

I had to switch from Delta to American to avoid going through there. Again, just commenting on my experience while traveling every 4-5 weeks for about 4 years straight.

m going to nominate a few other candidates for this thread and let others here chime in

Newark, NJ (EWR)
Miami, FL (MIA)
Orlando, FL (MCO)
The other 2 NY airports (LGA/JFK)
Atlanta, GA (ATL)

Newark, NJ (EWR) -- my main airport I use in NYC, it has gotten a LOT better recently
Miami, FL (MIA) -- eh, don't ever recall being too bad
Orlando, FL (MCO) -- have only been through there for work; kind of hell given the obvious (Disney Crowd
The other 2 NY airports (LGA/JFK) -- LGA was awful, but like Newark has gotten a lot better with recent improvements. JFK can go either way as well, but not awful by any stretch
Atlanta, GA (ATL) -- I love ATL, never understood the hate. I'd argue the most efficient airport to get around and through security i've ever been. Don't travel through there as much anymore though in the past 10 years

My nomination -- Dulles. frick that airport, especially the people movers / moving lounges and complete lack of food options

My recent trip was my first time flying in or out of EWR, and it was an absolute train wreck due to weather, so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth dealing with in the future. On the one hand, it's known for delays, and having to take busses between terminals is mind numbingly stupid. On the other, being able to pay $15 to take the train into (NY) Penn Station without having to worry about traffic, etc, was kind of amazing after flying in and out of LGA all these years.

Still bouncing it around in my head for the future.

Ontario

Will never fly another SoCal airport besides this one. Maybe because I'm cheap, but the whole LAX experience with economy parking is a hassle, getting checked bags is a PITA, and for some reason the last few times when we arrived, we had to walk about 1/4 mile through the airport to get to baggage claim. Meanwhile, 3 times I've flown through Ontario, I've left the plane and gotten to my car with checked bags within 15-20 min.

I actually don't have a huge problem with C&D. It's outdated but they're working on it. Lots of airports look bad these days

My problem with IAD is A&B, really. There is absolutely in that terminal besides lounges. The closest bar to the end of concourse B is the opposite end of concourse A. B&C at least have a few places to chill

Arriving in Houston off an international flight is the absolute worst airport experience I’ve had in America. Waiting in line to go get in the next line. 3 customs agents for 6 flights. It’s pretty amazing flying back from the “3rd world” and then you arrive in Houston and realize that America is the actual third world

LGA & MIA at times have been terrible for me.

Sometimes, in between renovations, not as bad.

I always undershoot in my hopes for airports; that way, if I have a good experience, that's found money.

Flying back from... I think Greece? We blew through customs (GE) and then got rejected coming back through security (with precheck) because we only had an hour (our flight was significantly delayed) until our connecting flight, and we wouldn't make it through security in time. We we forced to go to the ticket counter to get rebooked for a later flight. We then got through security (which took way longer than it should have, but still) not only in time to make our original flight, but to see that it had been delayed. And no, we could not get rebooked on that flight in spite of that.

My theory is that they had been dealing with delays and cancellations on other flights all day, so they decided it would be easier to give our seats to someone else who had been "waiting" and force us to take a later flight.

Still fricking pissy about it, though. We were fricking tired

Eh, most of ORD's delays are weather-related and we received far, far below our average snowfall last year, which resulted better than the national average in delayed flights. Considering the number of flights, a near 80% on-time departure in 2023 is pretty good.

I fly out of ORD every couple weeks and my only couple flight delays in recent memory have been maintenance related.

Other than that, I can't say much bad about ORD itself. Terminal 1 is spacious and Terminal 5 was recently renovated. Terminal 2 could use some updating, but you won't see larger flights going in-and-out of there. Honestly, have never been in Terminal 3 but it's also undergoing massive renovation.

There are definitely worse airports out there these days.
