Never been. FSU plays in Dublin next year.

Seems beautiful.

What do you think!

Logical to spend a week there then go to Scotland?

Thanks!

Yes spend a week there for sure. Of all the places I’ve been in Ireland, Dublin is my least favorite.
That’s less of a dig at Dublin and more of a compliment to the countryside.

100%, get out of Dublin after you hit the Post Office and St. James Gate. Head west.

A good friend of mine is hiking the Ring of Kerry right now with his wife. 100ish miles in 10 days then some more relaxed sight-seeing. I haven't done it, but it looks phenomenal and there are lots of shorter variations.

He was extremely excited, his wife was somewhat less enthusiastic.

Nope.

I’ve driven all over Ireland in rental cars.

Screw a Standard transmission, you’ve got plenty of other things to concentrate on other than shifting gears with your left hand.

Ireland is great, as was said here earlier, get out of Dublin.

Newgrange
Clonmacnoise
The Aran Isles
Kinsale

For starters

True, but going with a standard for a week of more leaves a pile more Euros for the pub

Notre Dame and Navy play in Dublin this year. The wife (sorry, no pics) and I are going a week early. Renting a car in Dublin then headed west to Galway and West Port. Then down to Waterford. Eventually ending up back in Dublin for the game.

Skip Scotland. And I say that despite Scotland being one of my favorite countries to visit. We spent 17 days in Ireland and it was not enough. As stated early, Dublin is nice but get out of the city as soon as you can. There are a ton of amazing sites and people through the country.

Interesting itinerary.

Why Westport or Waterford? They’re both merely OK but you can do much better (imho). From Galway, I’d instead go South to the Cliffs of Mohler, Doolin, either of the Rings of Kerry or of Cork.

The City of Cork and environs >>>>>> the City of Waterford and environs

Kinsale and Cobh are great, Midleton if you’re a Whiskey fan and then scoot up the M8 stopping at Cashel.

Avoid Blarney Castle, it’s overrated.

If you can work the village of Adare (near Limerick) into your travels, do so.

Again, all this is just one (my) personal opinion.

Good luck!

Take the Rural Pub Tour out of Dublin. You'll hit 6 or 7 pubs on a 7 hour crawl. All outside the City in the Wicklow
Mountains countryside. End up at Johnny Fox's. One of The oldest continuously operated pubs in Ireland with a really cool view of Dublin below. I know it sounds touristy, but let that go. You'll be glad you did.

Wife and I went first week of March. 5 days in Dublin and 5 in Galway.
Forst Day in Dublin explored, did a pub crawl
2nd Day Book of Kells Tour. St. Stephen's Green, more exploring/eating/drinking.
3rd Day We did the Paddywagon Tour to Balrney Castle/Rock of Cashel/and Cork. All day trip but it was awesome.
4th Day Guinesss Factory Tour. Walked to Brazen Head and had lunch. Best fish and chips of the trip.
5th Day I booked a late lunch/early dinner at the Vintage Cocktail Club speakeasy. It was fantastic! Hit up some more pubs. Landed at Bowes for the 2nd best Guinness in Dublin, according to the Guinness Guru. It was packed but my wife found a snug. Invited some lads from Belfast to join us. They took us to Mulligans down the street. Great craic!
Next day took the City Link to Galway. About €40 for the two of us.
Arrived in Galway. Checked in and explored the city.
Next day took Galway Tours to the Cliffs of Moher with the stops at a castle(can't remember the name), the Buren, the Cliffs and lunch in Doolin.
Day 3 took a Ferry to Inis Mor in the Arin Islands. Boat ride was rough as hell. White caps in the ocean. Island was amazing where they still speak Irish. Biked all around the island. Returned our bikes and hit a bar up on the hill until it was time to board the ferry back. Had a few Jamesons. Met an old seaman from England. He hit us up for a "tenner" for a book of his poems. Polish lad working the bar said it was going to be a rougher journey on the way back so I had a few more Jamo's. Ferry back was really rough but I was having the time of my life with all that whiskey in my belly. There were a few screams on the way back from the French passengers. I got up to use the bathroom which was an adventure in itself.
Next day explored Galway more and tried to knock out the Whiskey Trail.
Then back to Dublin the next day. Booked and room near the airport so we could chill and didn't have to rush to catch the flight back to the US the next day.

Really no need to get a car. Trains and Busses are super cheap. Plus car rentals are expensive and stressful .

Book a tour with a company. They have headsets and give you a history lesson and points of interest the entire way.
The Galway Tour guide to the Cliffs was awesome. He talked non stop and it was a great history lesson. You miss that when you go on your own by car.

Overall Ireland is amazing. Great food, drink and people. Music everywhere. In the evening everyone in the bars are singing along with the musicians.

It's been over two months since we've been and there hasn't been a day gone by that I don't think about it. I can't wait to go back and visit the rest of the IRE.

:the Guinness is better there. No doubt

:they also have amazing whiskey there that you can't get here. High dollar whiskey too. Way more expensive than Pappy.
