Wife and I will be in Indianapolis mid week through Sun morning for a wedding. Any must sees, things to do or restaurant recommendations? Thanks!

There were a few threads back in the spring on this city. If you do a search you should find some good info.

Take the drive out to Speedway to see the racetrack. They have a nice little museum on site and have a little bus tour that takes you around the track. Museum closes next month for an 18 month renovation and overhaul.

Also, check out the area around White River State Park in downtown Indy. Great walking trails by the river. Right in the same area is the Indy Zoo (very nice facility), the NCAA Hall of Champions, Indiana State Museum, and several other things.

St. Elmo shrimp cocktail. Steak is solid there, too. I always stay at the Omni downtown if I can.

Usually a pretty nice clean place.

Thanks to all those that replied. Made a reservation at St Elmo and plan to hit some museums and the Rathskeller Beer Garden. Weather looks great

Indianapolis has the most statues and memorials of any city in the country not named Washington, DC.

Are you staying downtown? If so, you can walk around and see the statues.

Newfields Indianapolis Museum of Arts
Crown Hill Cemetery - on of the largest in the country
Market Square
Downtown Carmel is nice
Downtown Zionsville is nice
If you are college age, Broad Ripple for bar hopping and inexpensive restaurants
Indianapolis Zoo
Indianapolis Speedway
George Thorogood is playing Thursday night
Dave Chapelle is playing on Wednesday night

If you have a car, drive north on Meridian St past 42nd up until you hit Westfield, which takes you over the canal. There are some magnificent houses in all kinds of architectural styles. The Meridian-Kessler and Forest Hills/Canterbury areas are really full of beautiful homes. This is the area where the Captain's of Industry and Bankers lived back in the day.

Restaurnts:

St Elmos - Always a good choice.
Weber Grill Restaurant is also downtown - nice atmosphere
Harry and Izzos - another steak House near St Elmos
Livery - Latin
The Meridian - American
Root and Bone - American
The Aristocrat - American - Old school comfort food at reasonable prices.
Brics in Broad Ripple for ice cream - in an old train station where you can walk around along the canal

Their are a lot of the usual chains - Ruth's Chris, Capital Grill, Coopers Hawk, Fogo de Chao, etc...

Gonna be honest, Indianapolis is an event city that relies on things like the Indy 500 for tourism. There isn’t a lot of things to do there. Sure, they got some restaurants but that’s about it.

The overwhelming majority of the city population lives in the surrounding suburbs so it doesn’t have much of a downtown population. Because of this, there’s little to no nightlife. Not ideal to visit if you’re wanting a place that’s touristy.

If you’re looking for a city that has more to offer in terms of tourism and nightlife, Chicago is a better choice. It’s 3 hours from Indy and has way more stuff to do in terms of tourism
