shoveling my driveway someplace in the winter.
This is extremely overrated on this board. Most places where it snows rarely requires you to shovel your driveway. Snow tends to not stick long on the driveway especially if you salt it. Also you can just ignore it and drive through it unless it gets really bad or if you live in a neighborhood where snow removal is required. They also make gas or electric snow blowers if you're so inclined. And if you do decide to shovel your driveway, if you do it right after it snows its super light and easy
The amount of time people spend shoveling snow up north is significantly less than the amount of time people in the south spend cutting their grass

Probably somewhere on Crete in Greece. Maybe the southern coast. Maybe in a mountain village. Maybe both?

Croatia and Montenegro. The Greeks and Italians are nuts when it comes to supposed tax enforcement. Former Eastern European countries over the West, all day.

People use that phrase as a general saying that they don't like dealing with cold weather up north. We realize that the actual time spent shoveling snow isn't overwhelming - probably less time than I spend mowing my yard in the winter. It's all the other stuff. I can wear shorts and t-shirts year-round. I don't have to put on thermal underwear, layers of clothing, boots, and hats that I need to take off and put back on constantly. I don't have to warm up my car in the morning. I don't have worry about slipping on the ice. I don't have to worry about chains on my tires or whether the roads I want to go on will be plowed in time. I don't have to worry about chapped lips or dry skin. I don't have to worry about whether it will be warm enough in November to grill out while watching the LSU-Alabama game.
I don't have to worry about any of those things, but I will say, "I don't have to worry about shoveling snow" as a catch all.

I had no idea that people use this as a catch-all. It has been a pet-peeve for years. What a revelation
All the other things you said are valid and one of the primary reasons that I want to swap places with you and am going to look at Vero next year

We tried Elijay last fall and it was very quiet up in mountains in our cabin. Did Blue Ridge few years before that. Trying to remember name of town on lake just north of Elijah. Could like there.
