I mean you never know and in this case at least you can be safe rather than sorry. The flight could easily divert mid air back to DFW if the winds are bad enough

Southwest updated their dates through Sept 3 so for those of you planning on going to LA for the game, you may want to call and see if you can go from Houston or another airport. Given the current power outage in Nola and the mess in LaPlace, I wouldn't trust airport operations at MSY getting back to normal anytime soon

Paid almost $400 to get to Houston from DTW bc they charged me change fees on the rebook. Anyone have success recuperating $$ by bitching up the chain?

Yep, just switched my flights from MSY to Houston. Now I’m flying out of Houston on Wednesday to vegas and flying home from vegas to Houston on Sunday evening. Sucks that I’ll have to drive the 3-4 hours to Houston but I am not missing this trip and I do not trust louisiana to have MSY operational for at least one week. Cuse, am I overreacting???

Got a SW credit of $33

Did you call? They should be willing to do things for free if you were going from DTW-MSY to DTW-HOU

No, excellent decision in my mind and glad you did it now. Do all of your rebookings now if you need to get places as inventory is going to diminish quickly once people realize the power mess for the area.

Southwest has been jacking up their prices two days out. For example, today they jacked up Tuesday’s prices and Yesterday they jacked up tomorrows prices. I had to make the call tonight about Wednesday or have to pay an extra $150 instead of the small refund

I misread the entire situation

Yes, great call on the switch! I'm urging others here to do it now as well

Thanks man, I’m definitely gonna do that, I’ll call Tuesday or Wednesday and explain everything to them. My parents are being hard headed and won’t switch their flights. They are suppose to come with me to the LSU game. They are holding out hope that MSY is operational Wednesday or at least by Friday.

I'll help with some logic to convince the parents.

If Southwest cancels flights into MSY tomorrow (which they already have), those people get rebooked onto whatever flights still have availability. That will fill up inventory for the rest of the week.

Now comes Tuesday we find out MSY still doesn't have power and it won't be for another 3 days. Now your parents have to get rebooked onto the few remaining flights with seats while fighting for inventory space with 3 other days worth of flyers. Are they going to be sitting at their computer waiting to see the waiver get updated on the southwest website and call at the exact time? Why not just change now, spend the drive together to Houston, and have a confirmed way of getting to the game?

If they end up not getting a flight later in the week it's hurricane cleanup duty. Most people here will need a break after the mess from this storm, changing now is one way to make sure it happens rather than chancing it

I had to use the delta texting feature. Said changing the city means I have to pay change fees. Had no choice but to book.

I hope they switch bc I was really looking forward to this trip with them. Don’t know how many more trips like this I’ll get with them

Call and get the refund when your original flight shows as cancelled/MSY is shut down for x amount of days. Delta is still planning on operating tomorrow afternoon's flights into MSY. You think everything is going to be good at the airport by 5pm? gtfo delta. The city doesn't have power, nothing in kenner

Lost all cell phone signal last night around 11pm, so glad I made the call to switch all my flights. I’m sitting in a Waffle House in Beaumont before heading to my Airbnb in Houston

Doing the same on Thursday. Hope it works out for us, let me know how Wednesday goes if you can.

Not looking likely, that’s for sure… Delta needs to go ahead and extend their dates, so I can change my flight to leave out of BTR.

And now Italy wants a negative Covid test even if you are vaccinated. Don’t know where the frick I’ll be able to get that tomorrow.

Guess it’ll depend on if they let flights start taking off tomorrow afternoon. Was also thinking of changing to BTR.

Where did you see the negative test requirement? Did that change today? I just checked the guidance on the Italy US embassy site which links to the Italy gov guidance and didn’t see that but maybe it didn’t update.

Need your help if you can Cuse. Got 2 people flying out of MSY to LAX with layover in PHX on Thursday (9/2), Flight AA1492, return flight BUR-DFW-MSY on Monday (9/6), Flight AA 1449. Got 2 more people on the flight out of MSY on Thursday but their return flight is LAX-DFW-MSY on Sunday (9/5), Flight AA 1200. What should we do? We are located in BR so easy thing would be to fly out of BR but right now that’s looking a lot more expensive, any advice? Have 2 more flying Delta on Friday evening nonstop to LAX but thinking they should be ok. Any advice would be much appreciated!!
