The American waiver is now posted through Sept 3. Call in and request a change to BTR. If they push back on charging a change fee for airports, there's a few things you can let them know below. You could also state that you cannot physically drive to New Orleans due to a lack of gas, road closures, etc.

"After an initial assessment, MSY has identified the following issues and is currently working to address them:

Due to the loss of water pressure from the Jefferson Parish Water Department, several aspects of airport operations are impacted including air conditioning, communication systems and functioning restrooms. MSY is coordinating with Jefferson Parish to get an estimated timeline for the restoration of water pressure.
MSY lost commercial power from Entergy Sunday evening and is operating on emergency generator power.
All landline phones are out of service.
There was no significant damage to the terminal facility, but damage assessments are ongoing.
Crews observed various debris on the airport roadways and perimeter fence damage."

Looks like Deta has finally made the change through September 3rd. No change fees, but I think we will have to eat the price difference and it’s pretty pricey out of BTR.

Yes, it changed today. Just got an email from Delta. US hasn’t updated their websites, but Italian sources are updated I believe. Absolutely ridiculous they would implement a rule with 72 hrs notice, for something that can take a day or so to get results.

Tell them you physically cannot get to MSY and there isn't any power in the entire city. How do they plan to operate a flight with no power? Have you tried changing online? Wonder if the system may let you do it for free online as btr and lft are nearby airports for irrops

Glad you were able to switch and get out quicker than expected. If others have the flexibility you have, would highly recommend something similar

They have allowed us to change without a fee. All flights through September 3rd. I will just have to pay the difference to fly out of BTR, since it’s much more expensive than my initial flight out of MSY.

We initially booked with points though, so this is a huge pain in the arse process having to go through Chase to change my flight.

Call chase and have them rebook you for free. No reason you should not be allowed to change your origin when an airport is currently closed.

Also for everyone planning on BTR, looks like nothing commercial today. AA and Delta are planning on tomorrow still and we have seen at least a few small planes land so that's a positive sign

You were right, let’s go! $1,000 per person more expensive flight, got it for no price difference….

Now I gotta somehow get a rapid COVID test in the next 24 hours in a city where everything is closed.

Got flights on SW from MSY on Friday. Looking to originate in BTR now. Original layover is in HOU. Should I just book a BTR to HOU and get there in time for original 2nd flight from HOU?

Drive to HOU. Call southwest and tell them you would like to leave from Houston given the mess in Nola (excuses in a few posts above). If you do not take your first flight, they will cancel the reservation.

You also cannot originate in Baton Rouge as Southwest does not fly into Baton Rouge. Closest airports to MSY that Southwest flies are Pensacola (PNS), Jackson (JAN), or Houston (IAH, HOU)

Where you going? What dates, flexible on flight times? I'd book soon if cost isn't a huge factor as everyone else will be rebooking once MSY is still closed

Southwest has cancelled flights through Wednesday midday just a fyi

Was able to get everything switched from nola to br fairly easily, thanks for the help there! Gonna have to pay for seats though bc they are gonna assign at check and there aren’t very many left and we have a group of 4 lol.

Cuse do you think my family’s Friday-Monday flights from MSY-LAX will be ok? Their’s are gonna be a bit more complicated to change.

Do it. The first people to be kicked off a flight from an oversell situation are the ones without seats. Would be money well spent imo. Purchase the seats for the BTR-DFW leg, not the following leg*

I'd go ahead and change Friday now as well but if they want to keep waiting they can go ahead. BTR plans on operating tomorrow, I do not see anything about MSY. I'm worried about power and the water situation at MSY moreso than debris on the airfield or terminal damage. Water and power are not easy immediate fixes

That's awesome. I'll need to try to get the same, cuz your right it's a $1k difference.

I always get mine on the north shore at arcpoint, guess I'll need to see if they open up this week or not. Let me know how that works out for you, I'll call around in the morning as well

Edit: actually think I'm gonna try to get my test at the airport while connecting. Expensive but hopefully that works
