If your flight cancels, you can get a refund. Otherwise you can change it for free. So if you book a 6am ATL-BTR flight and really don't feel like getting up at 4am, this is the perfect chance for you to switch to that 2pm flight free of charge. What time are you looking to head back? I can take a look at inventory

I'm not clear on this - does this mean that you can change the flight to another time and only pay the cost difference of the tickets, or change the flight to another time regardless of difference in cost?

Edit: this is on Delta, and reading the terms in their e-mail more closely, the difference in fare would apply.

Really wish DL had issued that waiver for MSY yesterday. Would have made my routing this morning much easier. Oh well.

My flight next week is under a waiver...just got the alerts.

Difference in fare only applies if you change your reservation to after 9/20/17. Any flight change to fly before then is free. No fare difference or change fee.

If there's a waiver for your flights and you keep the origin and destination the same, you can change the flight times for free.

Example: I book BTR-ATL for 6am tomorrow. Now that the waiver is up, I can change to a 3pm BTR-ATL flight because I think the weather will be crappy at 6am and don't want to risk spending the whole day at the airport. If I call Delta, I say that I'm really worried about the weather in the morning and would like to be put on the 3pm flight. With the waiver up for LA and the same origin and destination flights, they will should give you the change for free

I was fully expecting them to issue it yesterday, but I mean they operated every flight out of MSY today even with the rain all day, gotta hand it to them

yeah I can't complain. Landed like 25 min early. Had to fly out of GTF vs FCA (2+ hour drive) this morning.

I've actually enjoyed DL out of MSY recently. Clearly some new management there and some more attention from Virginia Ave. as a "focus" city.

Last time I flew out from there the 757 pilot gave a morning greeting at 7am, said he'd been flying for 30 years and the thunderstorms we were leaving in would cause some bumps but nothing to worry about. Was actually pretty nice and different than the usual announcementts. I'm still waiting on MSY-RDU to show up soon...

From what I just read on flyertalk, United is planning on operating hub to hub flights starting Thursday evening and most of Friday. By saturday they may be at close to normal but I would still try and avoid if at all possible

Just spoke with United. They said I can't get rerouted onto another airline/airport until the flight gets canceled 24 hours before the flight time (and I can only be switched to American). They only offered bumping my flight to Sunday. Does that seem right?

Starting to not feel so good about this.

This makes things interesting, as I'd been worried about a short connection before weather entered the picture. Not sure if I stand a better chance flying via ATL or JFK for a flight to Canada.

ATL any day. Someone sneezes in Queens and JFK has delays.

The agent you spoke with was probably on hour 12 of his or her workday and not very helpful. Where are you originally leaving from? MSY? If they cancel your flight to IAH or to BZE then we can find options.

What day this week? Also remember there's a tropical storm sitting off the carolinas right now meaning if that goes anywhere near NYC or DC late this week the airspace will be shutdown and 2 hours delays will be common. Stick with Atlanta and if you're not comfortable with your 40 minute connection, ask Delta for a longer one around 2 hours.

Last time I checked United still interlined with Delta and AA in the US...so you'll have SkyTeam, OneWorld, and StarAlliance options to consider once the flight is officially cancelled.

If you want to find another reroute via nearby/alternate airports, I'm sure UA would accommodate. (eg DFW-ORD-BZE)

I'm starting from Baltimore. I know there are other options, just didn't seem like they were available to switch now. Just wondering if that's because I spoke with the wrong person or what.

ETA: My preference would be through ATL/Delta so my partner can meet me there from LFT.

That's what I thought, but the person specifically said Delta wouldn't be an option.

Have you tried to change your itinerary online to anything else? The fact that you're leaving from Baltimore is a good thing. There are tons of flights through DFW, ATL, or MIA on Delta or American that can get you there.

This is a tough situation because I'm not sure if I would just book a new ticket on Delta completely at $500 roundtrip or stick with the united flights. Ask for the AA flights through Miami, there are several MIA-BZE flights a day just in case you miss the connection

Sounds like you got an uninformed, tired agent. Not sure what call times are like but I'd hang up and call again.

You won't get moved to another airline until the cancellation. But you should be able to move your flight around to avoid the IAH connection on UA.

At this point I'm considering just buying a Delta ticket and taking a refund from United. Price wise it's a wash for me but will be a couple hundred bucks more for the person starting in LFT. The hotel in Belize is a non-refundable $3k+ so it's probably worth it.

Problem is moving things around for United doesn't really help because they only fly to BZE from IAH.

ETA: Will United refund me or will I have to push for that?

Find a Copa, or Avianca flight.

All part of Star Alliance and serve BZE.
