I have someone flying into NOLA Sat for the game, she lives in Midtown Houston, any idea which airport will be more likely to be able to get to and fly out of on Sat? Im thinking Hobby, but After reading through some of this thread, looks like Southwest might not be viable.. Any advice appreciated.

Truly I have no idea. The flooding looks to be bad all over the city, but I at least know that IAH has been getting planes in and out. Southwest out of Hobby has only flown planes out, not in (basically there are no planes left at HOU currently). We're gonna have to wait until Thursday to see what the airlines do once the airports officially reopen

I don't think HOU will even be open by friday, there's just too many closed roads and flooding in the area. Also from southwest's site. Your friend unfortunately may just want to cancel her trip and get a refund...

Would Southwest cover her flight if she could get a Spirit flight or something from IAH?

Let's keep an eye on tomorrow and see if Southwest at least plans on flying in some planes. Don't want to ruin the trip yet, but need to be realistic about the options as of current

No they would not. Southwest doesn't have an interline agreement to book her on other airlines. Only the major airlines do that. Let's wait for an update from southwest. Do you know what time her flight is supposed to be on thursday?

This is good news. Reason I say this is because if Southwest is having crew issues out of HOU, ideally you want a plane with a crew that will land on a flight and use HOU essentially as a "connecting flight". In this case, that 4:05pm flight does Chicago - DC - Atlanta - Nola - Houston - Denver all as the same flight number and likely the same flight crew. As long as the runways aren't flooded and some staff can make it to the airport, her flight may end up being okay. I'd stick with Thursday for now Flightaware

Thanks... what about the odds of being able to drive out of Houston on Saturday to the game in NOLA Sat nite? Is it going to be so much of a cluster, you think, that she'll have a hard time making it to NOLA for an 8:30pm game Sat nite?

So far both LCH-DFW flights are scheduled to happen tomorrow so don't give up hope yet. The 2pm may be oversold so you could possibly get a voucher and fly out of LFT tomorrow evening if possible.

You will probably have better luck in the OT thread on the road flooding. I just know that most of the highways around there are flooded already with some reservoirs not expected to peak until the 31st or later

She also said she called Southwest and they said as of yet her flight was still scheduled to leave on Thursday on time. But I'm sure they have to say that as long as the flight hasn't officially been cancelled. I mean they aren't going to spill any inside knowledge lol

There is a chance but according to this the MSY-HOU flight is already cancelled for thursday but they haven't cancelled the HOU-DEN flight LINK... Maybe southwest is just operating hub to hub flights on thursday like United, which HOU-DEN is hub to hub for them so your friend may end up okay. I'll check back tomorrow on this

ETA: So I looked at Hobby's estimated arrivals here and on Thursday these are the flights that are supposed to show up before 4:05pm. As of current Southwest is estimated one of these to be your friends inbound flight instead of the plane coming from Nola. It says a 737 on southwest's site not 733 (though these can change easily) so my guess is it's coming from DCA

SWA206 B733 Jacksonville Intl (KJAX) Thu 01:10PM CDT
SWA239 B737 Eppley Airfield (KOMA) Thu 01:10PM CDT
SWA1783 B737 San Diego Intl (KSAN) Thu 01:30PM CDT
SWA1566 B737 Los Angeles Intl (KLAX) Thu 01:30PM CDT
SWA38 B733 Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Intl (KBHM) Thu 02:45PM CDT
SWA1245 B733 Valley Intl (KHRL) Thu 03:30PM CDT
SWA1701 B737 Reagan National (KDCA) Thu 03:40PM CDT
SWA42 B733 Midland Intl Air and Space Port (KMAF) Thu 03:45PM CDT
SWA35 B733 Dallas Love Field (KDAL) Thu 03:55PM CDT

Update for United travelers: They have updated their waiver to include travel between now and September 12th (still including all LA airports), travel must begin by November 20th. That is the largest window I've seen from a major airline in a while, kudos to them for all the people affected by this storm. If you have a flight from Baton Rouge or Nola between now and September 12th and would prefer a better time or switch to a nonstop from a connection, call in now!

Cuse, looks like they cancelled the Dfw to lch flight for tonight, which also cancels the 6am flight for lch to Dfw ( someone else on here was supposed to be on that flight). My 2:03 flight will be the only flight out of LCH.,,gotta pray my plane gets in from dfw, if not I guess I drive over to laffy or take Thur flight.

Hey Cuse, read through this thread and I believe I'm in a similar boat (plane) with a couple other posters.

Current itinerary is IAH-ORD Friday 9/1 at 8:45 AM (#UA527, doesn't show up on flightaware just yet). From all indications I should be encouraged it is a hub to hub flight, and currently I am holding off on changing flights.

I would be driving into IAH from the NW Houston area, and feel confident in being able to reach the airport from the Hardy Toll Road entrance.

Any suggestions on the current plan? Thanks in advance for doing some great work ITT

Pray for tomorrow. If you see a delay of more than an hr, call and ask to fly out of lch. Whoever was scheduled on the 6am, rebook out of lafayette. Plenty of seats available for tomorrow
