Agree with others on food choices. Hymans is tourist trap but I can't speak for myself on how it is. Hanks is the best seafood downtown IMO. Bowens Island is great for fried seafood and amazing marsh views at sunset.

Head to Sullivan's Island for Home Team BBQ, Obstinate Daughter, or Poe's. The beach there is great for families. Kiawah also great beach as mentioned before.

Walk around the Battery and downtown.

Lots of good suggestions already mentioned. I will add:

Take a boat out to Fort Sumter. It is interesting if you are into history. There is a boat dock for the tour boats at Patriots Point, so you can do both right there together.

The Aquarium is pretty nice too.

If you go see the angel oak, take the time to go a little further down the road to the tea plantation. It is amazing to see the bushes and how they make tea.

Go up Ashley River Road and visit some of the plantations. Our favorite is Magnolia. If you have younger kids, there is a petting zoo at the plantation, and you can take a tram ride or boat ride and will probably see a few alligators in the ponds.

Foodwise, RB's has really good seafood. If you leave Patriots Point and head toward Sullivan's Island, it will be on the right just after crossing Shem Creek. Get there late in the afternoon/early evening and try to get a table down by the water. You will typically see two or three pods of dolphins going up the creek and coming back down.

For a little higher class seafood place, check out The Boathouse at Breech Inlet, driving from Sullivan's to Isle of Palms, it will be on the left as soon as you cross the bridge.

Also, our favorite bbq place is Melvins in Mt. Pleasant. Not too far past the end of the big Ravenell Bridge, it is s at the intersection of US 17 and Houston Northcutt Blvd.

Also, if you are in that area, stop at the Mt. Pleasant Welcome Center under the bridge. It is a cute little park area with a pier out into the river, and easy access to Wonder's Way, which is the pedestrian portion of the Ravenell Bridge.

The trip to Fort Sumter is awesome. If you are a history buff, do the museum. The restaurant recs above are good.

Beautiful city to just walk the streets. Tour of Ft. Sumpter is at the top of the list of things to do. It is a great restaurant city. Three of our favorites are FIG, SNOB, and the Peninsula Grill. I have been there numerous times for vacation including last October when the LSU - USCe game got moved to BR because of the flooding in Columbia.

Also check out Home Team BBQ, in addition to the spots listed out by others. Also, Leon's Oyster shop is one of my favorite restaurants in the South. Fried chicken, raw oysters, and wine. Great concept, executed very well.

Charleston might be the hot girl capital of the world. Especially when CofC is in.
Then again, I'm really biased as I'm from there and went to CofC.

And to you buffoons claiming Hymens is good, just stop. You've obviously never had good seafood. That place is a straight tourist trap with garbage fried seafood, shrimp from thailand, and horrible scallops (and by scallop I mean stamped out stingray wings).

Most people that come here don't realize we "split shots" on the peninsula. In other words, save money and order shots to the ring of 3 whatever 5 ways.

Can I tag along? I need to find an apartment there
