Please report any tricks you discover to overcome the expensive booze prices in Iceland. We are going in late September and do not want to pay more for booze than the airfare there.

I went in mid-May a few years ago for nine days and had a great time. How long is your trip?

I don't drink.

Just a few days, which is long enough for me to do what I want to do. I'm going solo and can cover a lot of ground with all the daylight I will have.

The major concern for me is you have to get a COVID test upon arrival and can't go anywhere but your hotel until you have been notified that you are negative.

Can’t wait for the trip reports...”We were only allowed to shop at the airport and view sights from our quarantine bus.”

And do what exactly? Most of the continent is locked down.

Looking to spend the entire month of June in Europe—somewhere, anywhere

Do we have any clarity on what the best bet is? I know Greece is welcoming tourists. Even being able to spend time on the coast and enjoy outdoor dining and sightseeing would be great.

Your best bet will definitely be the sun countries on the Med. They need the money.

Croatia has pretty reasonable restrictions. Greece is opening up.

COVID spikes came through starting in March and are starting the draw down right now. That will take a few weeks. June should be OK for what you want to do. Later is better as the spike subsides and vaccination picks up.

Did you read the article?

Fully vaccinated tourists from the States will be able to come to the European Union over the summer, Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, has recently told the New York Times.

LINK

And yes, travel may be restricted still. LINK

"All 27 member states will accept, unconditionally, all those who are vaccinated with vaccines that are approved by EMA," she told the New York Times

Point was there is some hope looming and light at the end of the tunnel, but uncertainty still exists. I will travel to Europe this fall in a heart beat if we can ultimately get in and I don't care if there are still restriction in place. Have a cruise booked in November. Time to travel!

You really can. Even in mid-May, it doesn't really get dark, and the national parks and many other outdoor sites that you want to see are open 24/7. And seeing them after the tour buses were gone for the day was even better (not that there are likely to be many tour buses this year).

I always tell people that Iceland is great for a 3-day trip where you base yourself in Reykjavik, and it's great for a trip of 8-12 days, where you drive the Ring Road and try to see most of the attractions on the island.

Yes, I read the article. I understand you can get to Europe. The question is whether anything is open once you get there. We have to hope they can get their vaccines rolling out faster. Hopefully it helps that we start shipping them more.

Wolter's World is a popular blogger on YouTube. An acquired taste for some. Here's his take.

Point is you can get there. There are SO many things to do besides visiting the major tourist destinations once you get there even if there are limitations. But we don't know that fully "things will be open or closed yet". Rome’s Colosseum has recently reopened for business for example. If Americans end up getting into Italy this summer or fall, there's just one example of "something open". I tend to want to visit the rural towns and country side anyway where Covid restrictions are minimal or non-existent in many countries.

AND if you want to go through EU countries to get to another country (say Croatia or other Balkan Countries), it's going to be possible.

Yes, you have to be flexible and keep your eye on what's happening in the individual EU Countries. But there's some hope now when there wasn't. 2021 will be the year of being realistic and flexible. But if you are really tired of not traveling and can live with some limitations it's time to travel!
