Disney world isn’t a place you just flip a switch on when it has been totally shut down. There are so many moving pieces to that place that have to get going.

I think they might be waiting until they can have the parks at close to full capacity before reopening.

Didn’t the lay off a bunch of their employees? Those people left and went get other jobs? Now they have to rehire many to staff?

Also, doesn’t many come from around the country/world to work there? They either went home because they couldn’t pay their bills or relocated.

I don’t think people like the guy who started this thread understands the business behind running a place like Disney.

There's no way you can really socially distance yourself in any of the parks. The lines in the summer are ridiculously long and you're always shoulder to shoulder with people wherever you go. It would be a total fricking nightmare to force people six feet apart in the ride queues and stop and wipe down each car before loading it. I think you're right. The only way it seems like it's going to work is if Disney gives recommendations but otherwise operating under normal conditions with everything else.

The plan is reduced capacity, masks, temp checks, no fireworks, no parades, no meet and greets.

They are going to have to re-hire a lot of people, restock a lot of food inventory, etc. Make new scheduling guidelines and decisions, etc.

Plus the wiping down stuff... that's going to be wild. My guess is by July, they are hoping it won't be necessary.

All other Orlando parks are opening in the next 2 weeks.

Disney has been openingly courting the NBA and MLS to come play there, so it seems like they just don't give a crap about their theme parks.

I'm shocked they are waiting so long. Universal is going to be open more than a month before Disney is.

Universal is the next biggest park system, and they are a fraction of what Disney is.

Disney operates on a whole different plane when it comes to size.

Most of the timelines for this would have these events starting at around the same time the parks would open. Also, the additional money from these events is nothing compared to the lost park revenue from not being fully open.

You will also need a reservation just to enter the park. Why anyone would pay Disney prices for a limited Disney experience?

Yeah, they are going to have to rethink their pricing structure. No one should be willing to pay $150 a day to stand in long lines, wearing masks in the Florida heat, while they wait for a seat to be sanitized after each ride.

I agree, but are we really sure people won't do that?

I feel like there are people clamoring to go on Carnival cruises and to Disney already. We might find that absurd but you and I probably aren't the target demo either.

Yep. This is a total failure of leadership. Florida will probably be nearing phase 3 before they even open.

The people who are clamoring to go on Carnival Cruises are the ones who think there will be tons of cheap / discounted fares, with little change to operations.

Carnival and the other cruise lines are going to struggle mightily if they keep their fares are pre-pandemic rates yet offer significantly less on their ships.

I think they definitely owe people who bought park hopper passes a refund if they go on days when this is in effect.

For me, though, I don't waste money on that stupid crap so this won't bother me at all as long as I'm able to reserve my spots in the parks.

Yeah? What dates are the waterparks opening? Hotel reservations for non-Disney club owners?

I didn't say anything about 2 months, but 45 days doesn't make them look any less incompetent.
