Just got engaged. Fiancé wants a destination wedding. Fairly reasonable, any ideas?

She knows it's a bad idea and is already throwing him under the bus.

Depends on the time of year. If you’re looking at a summer wedding, I’d go somewhere like Woodworth or Krotz Springs. Spring would probably be somewhere along the water like Lake Arthur.

But seriously, depends on what you want out of it. We are going to Italy and doing a big reception when we come back. Only going to be immediate family high to Italy. If you’re wanting to get more people to travel with you, I’d go somewhere easy to get to like Miami.

Don't get upset when people aren't able to go to your wedding. You are asking them to make your wedding their vacation basically. People will be excited at first and the closer it gets...expect some will let you know they can't go.

Think of the people you would be the most heartbroken if they weren't there (parents, immediate family). Consider if they would be able to afford travel to the destination you choose. Or if they can even travel (ex: a grandparent that might not be able to withstand a long trip, etc).

You can have a large wedding or a destination wedding, but not both (unless you are extremely wealthy and will be paying travel costs for everyone).

ETA: I saw your OP said fiance and not fiancee. Also need to make sure the destination you choose does gay marriages.

Possibly

But a chick would be coming back to comment more in this thread.

This was what the Mrs. and I did for our wedding and it was a blast. As someone said be prepared for people to complain, but at the end of the day this is about you two and not anyone else. With that being said we had a small one, a total of 23 people. If you find a good place your guest will travel. I don't know what your budget is, but this was where we went:

They took care of everything, and can set up a site visit for you to pick out the details. Best of luck.

I hear the fall is a great time of year for this sort of event.

This is actually a legit recommendation. We went up there for Thanksgiving. It a nice place. The chapel on the bluff is gorgeous. I can post some pics later if the OP is interested.

One of my friends for married later in life and they decided to have the wedding in the beach sour if Cancun. They picked a lower end all inclusive place, even though they are rich, so as many friends as possible could go.

Sandestin would be a somewhat reasonable place to do it

Got married at El Dorado Royale in Riviera Maya Mexico. Amazing wedding where our close friends and family who attended had a great time. I highly suggest it as it takes a ton of work off your plate while having a beautiful and fun wedding.
