anything we should know? good eats? i haven't been to gulf shores since the late 1970s so this is all new.

we are further out towards fort morgan so not in the main gulf shores beach area with all the activities.

dolphin viewing? what's good to do other than fishing?

Can't really help you out that far west. But if you don't mind the drive back toward the heart of the area...

Crico's Pizza is pretty good. Get the Crico's Sticks.

Really good beignets at Cafe Beignet in the Rouses shopping center on Ft Morgan Road & 59.

Lulu's food is ok. The Krispy Kreme bread pudding is excellent.

Big Beach Brewery - great beer
Fisher's upstairs for dinner
Big Fish for dinner
The Gulf for lunch
Flora Bama for lunch
Fisher's downstairs for lunch
Flora Bama Yacht Club for lunch

Not sure about dolphin cruises but Flora Bama rents pontoons. Take it over to Robinson Island or to Pirates Cove

Pensacola Air Museum is great if you don't mind making the drive

The Hangout area of Gulf Shores has gotten really nice if you're just looking for a place to walk or chill on the beach and eat/drink

If you like history you might want to look into taking the ferry from Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island and seeing Fort Gaines. Make sure you get to ferry parking 30 minutes before it departs. It can get crowded

A trip to the Keg will transport you back to 1978. Great burgers. Cheap beer. LINK

Lillian's Pizza - well worth the drive to Perdido Key IMO.

The better places to eat are going to be closer to Orange Beach, about a 20-30 minute drive from Ft Morgan area. Big Fish is our favorite. We like The Gulf as well. Weather is supposed to be pleasant this week/weekend in most of Alabama, so The Gulf would be great casual option. Big Beach brewing has good beer if you're into craft beer. Pretty cool atmosphere as well. It's close to Ft Morgan.

I've heard that area has been hit especially hard with the staff shortages though, so bring your patience. We went twice this summer and didn't eat out either time so I can't confirm.

If you are into nature at all, hike the trails at Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge.
(Particularly the Pine Beach Trail).

keep the suggestions coming! big fish and the gulf sound good and we're 1/2 mile from the bon secour park so a hiking trip seems in order for sure.

Good suggestions in this thread but most of the restaurants are a good little drive for you. Not much out Ft Morgan way, the Tacky Jacks out there is a fun enough place to hang out and have some drinks but the food isn’t good.

Sassy Bass has a nice little operation there. Good pizza and good supply of most everything you’ll need. Second the Bon Secour hike. Very nice

Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores has about 15 miles of paved trails. If the weather is nice, renting bicycles to cruise the trails is a good way to spend the day. Can do some geocaching along the way.

Bump. Fun little mini trip.

Gulf Shores is cheeeeap. nice being able to go anywhere and have a great meal and not break the bank.

Sassy bass was right next door and the kids popcorn shrimp was freaking delicious. I had to get that for myself after eating my kid's leftovers. The grouper Ruben was also amazing.

We hit the Hangout and the kids had fun for like 3 straight hours.

Did the go karts, had lunch at fishers and met the guy who rebuilt the area after Sally and he let us go on one of his boats.

Never been to a rouses so that was fun and stocked up on cajun crap I can't buy in TN.

The beach was great and wasn't ready to get as sunburned as we did. That cool weather will trick you.

Hope's bakery was also a great place to stop and grab a slice of pie.

Nice sleepy little area. Even enjoyed the Shrimp Basket. $15 for blackened redfish?? Yep count me in.

Also where else you gonna get this view for $100 a night and almost no people to deal with.

Great little mini vacation but i65 between gulf shores and Nashville is Hell on Earth.

Nice! I hope you tried the Navy Cove oysters at Sassy Bass. Retired marine biologist from LSU started the oyster farm and they are delicious.

I did not. We did get some raw murder point oysters at the wharf and had the fried ones at fishers but didn't think about getting them at sassy.... And we ate there like 4x because it was downstairs.

Gulf Shores Plantation? Definitely beats the high rises on the strip! And, can’t beat all the pools on property either.

Yup.

That's the place. Loved it. We practically had the place to ourselves.

I’ve been going there since the 90’s and now bring my kids. Even during the summer it never really feels crowded. It’s definitely a hidden gem.

Damn, that's a hell of a deal for a family of 3-5.

Gulf Shores is underrated and not a bad place to go at all especially outside of summer and spring break when its not busy.

Poster by the name of lsumailman has an oyster farm called Navy Cove I think in the Fort Morgan area ... he I believe also works at a restaurant in that area that serves them ... I'm trying to remember the name.

Edit: Sassy Bass. Never been there but it sure sounded yummy. IDK the guy but he's originally from my area of Louisiana.

I'll keep they oysters in mind next time I'm down there. I think the food at Sassy Bass is overseassoned, but that's a personal preference. Most places down there overseason their food.
