Colorado Trip Ideas

I'm back to day dreaming about taking a solo trip to Colorado this summer.
Thinking about flying into Denver mid day and taking a rental car to Boulder for a one night stay. Maybe taking a tour of Rocky Mountain National Park while there. Any other ideas?
Then would drive over to Vail area to spend two or three nights. Not sure what I would pick to do there, but getting out of the heat down here for a little bit would make me happy.

that would be an ideal trip and have done something similar
we stayed the weekend in Denver, drove over to Boulder and spent some time but actually stayed in Estes Park area before going through RMNP and coming out on that end away from Estes Park you are close to the ski resort areas - we stayed a couple of nights at Vail
Vail has plenty to do and you could drive over to Breckenridge to visit
Take the drive up to Mt Evans

I enjoy July in Colorado. Nice break from this heat down here.
Enjoyed some really nice camping/ hiking trips west of Hwy 24 between Buena Vista and Leadville. The weather is hard to beat.

Just do the loop. Denver to Boulder than north to Estes Park to the RMNP to Grand Lake / Grandby and back down 70 to Denver.

Summer in RMNP is truly sublime. Hike the Mills lake trail and hit the Bear lake as well. You won't be disappointed.

We are flying out to Denver in a week. Staying two nights in Estes Park, 2 nights in Leadville, and 2 nights in Keystone. Pumped is an understatement.

Wife is off getting a spa treatment and I’m killing time before we go to a show at the amphitheater

Staying in Estes Park the night before RMNP is probably a good idea to allow you to get up early and into the park before the crowds.
I really like Grand Lake on the back side - very quiet town and higher lake in Colorado.
As everyone else said, checking out the ski resorts after that is an easy beautiful drive.
If you have time to drive to Glenwood Springs - great town and can enjoy the hot springs.

I'm here now (between Denver and Breck) - altitude adjustment is no joke.

Alt adjustment is real. Takes a day or so and helps if you drive there.
Last year we drove to an area west of crystal lakes to tent camp.
Took about hour and half off the hwy to get back where we were. Crossed a few creeks and setup at about 11000-11500 ft.
Gathering firewood that evening definelty had me huffin and puffin.
Summer time camping out there is the best. Surrounded by mountains. Super quiet, not the noises like you hear down south which is weird.
Cool weather.

Find Smoking Yard BBQ in Idaho Springs for a meal. Thank me later.

AKA my homeland, and weather is time of year dependant.
So we still have a fat snowpack. Im thinking 3 weeks until you can get up into the high terrain without special equipment. Rafting should remain good into July. Reservoirs are gonna be about full at this rate. Lots of water to let down the rivers later into the season.

so this (short) trip has been wonderful. After vail we drove back east on 70 and spent the day in Georgetown and Idaho springs, great little towns. Rented a cabin on beaver creek, show last night at red rocks. Today we went to dinosaur ridge (awesome) and spent the afternoon in Morrison. Tonite we are meeting some friends for dinner in evergreen
There really are no wrong answers in Colorado in the summer

We for sure passed each other on I70 once or twice last week
We went to C Springs and Garden of the Gods one day, which was nice. We got too late of a jump on the day to do Pikes Peak.

Looking at a weeklong trip last week this month with a family of 6.
Would RMNP and Gunnison be too much for one trip?

Some pics from last summer Colorado trip. This was July. Just a small sample of our trip. We split the trip between three of us. 9 days was $600 each. Hard to beat. Biggest cost was gas and two hotel rooms during the travel.
If you like the outdoors, definitely spend some time in Colorado. Will not be disappointed at all.

I don't know what your envisioning doing on a solo trip, but if it were me I wouldn't want to be around a whole bunch of people and would want to just enjoy the serenity of nature.
Meaning I wouldn't be around Denver, or Vail, or RMNP, or Breckenridge, etc. but that's just me.
I'd fly into Denver and either go west or go south, or both.
I'd go to small towns and do some hiking off the beaten path to ghost towns, find remote hot springs, and hike to the top of Mt. Elbert. Turquise Lake and Twin Lakes are nearby and are really nice campgrounds there.
Doing a loop going down through Leadville, Buena Vista, Salida, Canon City, and then up through Colorado Springs back to Denver would be a nice trek to go on with nice stops along the way.

hike to the top of Mt. Elbert.
Well worth it. Wish I had time for Mt Massive. Next time I guess.
Get there before daylight. Hit the top by noon because the weather may roll in by then. We got a small thunderstorm on us as we were heading down. We were still above the tree line and it started to hail/small ice pellets
Kroenke Lake hike is very nice. Can also split off and go to Bear Lake and or Mt Harvard if you like. This will be our next backpack in and camp spot when we go back
