Christmas Week Travel Thread

Hope everyone is having a great end to the year. I know there are lots of trips being planned around this time of year for family visits, ski season, and more so wanted to ask where is everyone headed this week?
I'll be on my way to NC for five days over christmas, looks like I'll be bringing the cold weather over this week so I'm sure the family will be happy about that . Have nonstop flights booked and looks like American isn't even selling tickets for my flight home the day after christmas. This should be a good time of year to get some vouchers on oversold flights so if you've got some flexibility around the holidays, you may be able to make a lot of $$$ given the reduced flight schedules.
One other note- I've noticed some of the regional airlines like Mesa and Skywest have already started cancelling flights due to crew availability (aka not enough workers) so keep an eye on that if you're flying in/out of a regional airport on those airlines. Given how full flights will be, if your flight does get cancelled, try and rebook immediately or to a nearby airport otherwise it may be a few days before you can get there. Any issues feel free to post here.
Merry Christmas all

Not going anywhere. Got a shot at snow on Christmas and I'm not wasting it.
Wouldn't be a bad thread for me to do a little travel weather for the next week either.

Flying out of NOLA early Christmas Eve morning. Think we’ll have fog? Any suggestions for a 5-hour layover at Miami airport?

Feel free to add it here or do a separate one. The winds look gnarly across the country next Saturday and Sunday, Jetstream from Cali to NY will make it a long flight back for me unfortunately.

We'll let Duke help answer that first part . For the Miami airport, 5 hours is long enough for you to leave and come back. Maybe grab some decent breakfast or brunch in Miami someplace? I know there are Admirals Clubs as well which would help pass the time quicker

Buffalo weather is looking good on Monday so confidence is high for non-stop travel to LAX. Coming back the 26th on the red-eye, which still looks good this far out. Still a lot of car travel to deal with (3 hours to BUF, 1+hours from LA south Orange County)

Nice! I never took 491/492 on JetBlue when I lived there but it's pretty much the only west coast flight besides the nonstop on southwest to Denver. Seatmap looks pretty full headed west, more open seats on the red-eye return.

Headed to London on Tuesday for Christmas. Then we’re going to Madeira on Boxing Day for New Years.
Figure I’ll need 5 separate Covid tests!
Hopefully no lockdowns, no interruptions, no cancellations and being triple vaccinated works!

I had a trip all booked to South Africa, leaving Christmas night and returning on January 2nd. And then British Airways canceled my flight to South Africa, and I couldn't get rebooked with the AA miles that I'd used.
So, I planned something else: heading to Guanaja, a little Caribbean island off the northern coast of Honduras. I'll get my PADI open water certification, and I'll see an island unchanged by mass tourism.
I used 29.5k AA miles to fly MSY-MIA-SAP in first, then paid a local airline $75 for a flight from SAP to La Ceiba (spending a night there), and then another $65 for a flight to Guanaja. I'll be there for four nights, before flying to Roatan and spending one night there and then returning RTB-IAH-MSY on United for 10k Aeroplan miles.

that sounds like a great trip
wife and I are going to a Cancun area resort 1/7-12. Ordinarily not our thing but we will be at three concerts right on the beach with our hippie tribe. Should be amazing

Driving to NY on Monday for a couple days. Bummed because the place we were going for dinner that night had to cancel because of COVID tests from their staff. One of my favorite places too so I was really looking forward to it. Oh well.

I hope you have a good time, but at this rate no way I go to Europe until they figure shite out.

This sounds exotic and like a lot of fun, had to look up where this is located.

Hope the weather is nice! Beach vacation would be great to get away from all this rain

I'm sure you'll find another good restaurant. Manhattan, midtown, downtown, UES, UWS?

I'll be there in a month, hope Park City gets their runs open soon and additional snow

I have to be honest, that sounds terrible.
Posted on 12/18/21 at 8:07 pm to AbitaFan08
Terrible? Why?
Admittedly, AA first class isn't anything special right now, because they still aren't serving hot food, but flying to San Pedro Sula in AA first won't be that bad. I'll have access to the Priority Pass lounge in SAP while I wait for the flight on the small Aerolineas Sosa plane to La Ceiba.
I haven't been in La Ceiba since 1997, but I still don't expect an evening in a hotel there to be bad. I speak decent Spanish, so I'm very comfortable doing things like going out to eat in Latin American cities and talking to cab drivers.
The flight in the morning in the little Cessna 200 to Guanaja should be fun. You can get great views from those little planes. Scuba diving in Guanaja on awesome reefs won't be horrible at all. It will be interesting to stay in the little town of Savannah Bight (about 1000 people) that doesn't see big groups of tourists. My hotel only has 12 rooms, and there's also a small youth hostel there, but the Honduran Bay Islands are such an interesting culture, as most of the people who live there are descended from British settlers coming from the Caymans, and almost everyone on Guanaja speaks English as their first language.
And what's horrible about a day on Roatan on the way back? I'll be spending NYE in West End, which is something of Roatan's party capital. I'm sure it will be fun. I'm renting a car for the day for only $32, so I'll be able to explore Roatan a bit, before coming back on New Years Day, which gives me Sunday to adjust before going back to work on Monday.
You seriously think that sounds horrible?

GOP, I think Abita was referring to
quote:as being horrible. That's a lot to accomplish within a week especially with Covid roadblocks. Pretty sure we're all jealous of your trip

Oh, I guess Abita didn't realize that this was PassGassed making a joke about H2O's "2022 Honeymoon Adventure" thread.

Just made it to our cabin outside of pigeon forge. This thing is 3 levels and sleeps 30. There are 26 of us. Mostly in-laws. Send prayers.
