Is there any downtown portion of Chattagoona to avoid?

Passing thru on way to Gatlinburg and Hotel Indigo-Downtown Chattagoona looks like the place to rest on that last leg of the trip.

Any info greatly appreciated!

I've never had any problems in downtown Chattanooga, but I haven't stayed there in several years. There are some TD posters from that area who can probably give you more up to date information.

The downtown is quite nice especially around the aquarium. Chattanooga in general is a really nice little city. I was impressed.

Hotel Indigo is in a decent part of downtown. Head south on Pine Street and there are some nice places for dinner and a drink. And if the weather is good it has a pretty good outdoor scene. Check out Easy Bistro. Old Gilman Grill is not bad. The Read House is a cool old hotel with a nice bar. Lots of nice places on Main St. toward the east. You might want to abandon Gatlinburg after a couple of days and go back.

Never been to the Indigo but the Read House is nice.

Also I street-parked a rental car and left luggage in it. Not a fingerprint on it.

We have had an uptick in shootings recently downtown. One happened a few days ago where some Baylor (Chatt high school, not college) grad that was in town for a reunion and was staying downtown got an argument with a local near Patten towers/TVA buildings and the local shot him in the head.

We have a nice downtown, but there are some spots that are iffy.

I would avoid closer to the core downtown area closer to the full service Marriott after dark. The reason is there are fewer people out and about and the bad element knows this. I will walk around by myself after dark closer to aquarium area and 3 blocks back.

I really like Chatt. Beautiful city but many homeless and thugs.

If you're driving in from ATL, make sure to hit the Lodge factory store in South Pittsburgh, Tennessee. The savings are great, and there is stuff that never hit the website from Cornbread festivals, etc.
