First time to the UK. No clue what to do while there.
Flying into Heathrow early Friday in mid July. Don't have to be to the work location just north of London until Sunday evening.
Looking for suggestions in London for Friday, Saturday, early Sunday.
Working around the country at various MOD facilities M-Th afternoon and then I am on my own again until I leave Heathrow Monday morning.
Back to London or should I take a few days elsewhere in the country?
ETA. Found a Marriott property four blocks from London Bridge and the Tower. I am guessing that's an OK area to spend the first Friday, Saturday? Anyone know?

It’s far( relative) but Newcastle is an awesome city, Manchester is solid. Everything else skip. … maybe Visit Brighton for a beachy town

Where will you be when you knock off Thursday? Also, be prepared for the tube not running due to strikes.

Crap. Where did you see this? I believe you but I am looking at something I can follow to keep tabs on this off the next few weeks.

I'd strongly recommend a day in a smaller town, or at least not a big city. If you have 2 weekends, I'd spend one in London and one outside of a city. But if you are working outside if the cities or whatever and with locals and go out to pubs with them then that's the same experience.
One of my favorite things about England is walking around a small town, checking out the local castle (almost every old town in England has a castle), and having pub hopping. Especially in July the weather should be really nice.
I'd consider bringing a sleep mask for July. FYI the sun goes down very late and rises very early. There's not always good blinds. It doesn't bother me, but it does my wife.

Will you be solo? How old are you? What are you interested in? There’s lots of cool things to see and do. Which bases will you be going to?

Take train to Lake District. Completely gorgeous!! Cotswolds are another option.

If you are on the South Bank, you may want to check out Borrough Market for lunch one day, and I would highly recommend seeing the Tower of London.

The Dixon? Yeah, I think that's fine. The Tower area is on the eastern edge of most of London's big attractions, but it's still a good base for seeing the Tower (which is awesome), St. Paul's, the Museum of London (really great for the Roman history of the city), and some other attractions.
And the Tube is easy, so seeing stuff in other parts of London isn't a challenge at all. And there are so many things to see. I passed through London on Sunday and stopped at The Old Operating Theatre and Herb Garret, which is a small museum not that far from that area, and I spent a fascinating hour learning about the history of medicine from 200 years ago -- and you'd have to go pretty far down the list to see that little museum on a list of London's attractions.
I second that people telling you to get out of London for one of the two time periods. Personally, I'd pick a town with medieval history to stay in. I was in Canterbury earlier this month and loved it. I was in Salisbury in 2016 and felt the same about it. I haven't been to Bath, Oxford, or Winchester, but I've read good things about them as well.

Its all over the news in the UK. Workers are doing 1 day strikes once or twice a week, which means trains are screwed up for the following day. The news I last saw said this may go on for several months. Here is a link to London Standard Newspaper. Looks like Heathrow workers are about to strike too. Have fun
ETA: Maybe just British Air workers strike at heathrow but I bet that effects all airlines.

Elton John and Rolling Stones playing this weekend if that is your thing...
Day trips...Bath is a great town to visit...and you can hit Stonehenge on the way if you are into that stuff

The most overrated attraction in the world. It's a few rocks in a field, and there's a big highway driving right by. I was at Salisbury, so Stonehenge was only 15 minutes away, and it was still a huge waste of time.
