I still like Hartmann.

I travel far too much unfortunatly and have been using a Hartmann backpack for years and it still looks new, the damn thing is indestructable.

Their stuff is pricey but worth it if you travel much.

Hartmann is no longer the quality it once was because they were acquired by Samsonite back in 2012.

Tumi was just acquired by them this month as well. I would expect their quality to drop off as well

I was a big Tumi fan but was disappointed in the last hard shell carry on I purchased, a Tegra-Lite. The handle lock had a defect that would sometimes cause the handle to get stuck halfway down. It died completely after only 2 years when one of the wheels broke off.

My Briggs and Riley is perfect. Dimensions are exact for most overheads, I can't remember the name, but I have the one that has the click expansion and compression so I can fit a ton of stuff in it without it puffing up. The pull handle is on the outside so clothes lay flat inside and don't wrinkle, it has a garment extension, is light, and has a lifetime warranty.

I have the two wheel to be as compact as possible, but it comes in a spinner option as well.

I refuse to roll luggage, so you probably don't want my advice. Carry your shite people.

So you're saying you don't fly very often, and only for overnight trips when you do.

I have decided to go with the Briggs and Riley.

Now the question is the 2 wheel version or the spinner?

I have never owned a spinner but the luggage guy I talked to said that every manufacturer is moving towards this trend. The model I am looking at has both options. The 2 wheel version has slightly more room.

I could see a bigger case benefitting a lot with the spinner design but not sure with a 22" . Thoughts?

I have the older two wheel version of this

LINK

Have had it 10 years, but not nearly as much travel as you. A few times of year, so I can't speak for that level of durability.

But, send it back if it breaks, I love LL Bean.

Dakine bags have a lifetime warranty, and they roll through airports like a dream.

Im a traveling engineer, when I don't work from home. I'm doing two weeks home and two weeks away right now. I don't have to wear suits is my saving grace. My bag gets heavy, I think it holds more than any roller carry-on would, but I carry it none the less.

It's preference at that point. I went with the two wheel. Less moving parts to get knocked off, more room, and lower profile.

I had a spinner bag previously and went back to the 2 wheels.

I like that the two wheel has "brakes" (it won't roll away if on an incline) but I also don't have the experience of the benefits of a spinner. i do know I would never push my bag around the airport, I will pull it like a 2 wheeler.

For a 22", I don't think a spinner is necessary.

For > 22", spinner only.
