Does anyone have a good recommendation for a halfway point with a decent hotel?

Tallahassee

Once I lose the hour and cross into Eastern, I'm ready to stop

That's where the wife wants to stop, do you have a hotel recommendation?

We went over Thanksgiving and stayed at the Hampton Inn in Quincy. It’s about 20 minutes this side of Tallahassee. Served it’s purpose, got some sleep and back on the road the next morning.

I like stopping in Tallahassee but Crestview is a fallback. But I have to come from central MS so have to deal with Hwy 49 and lower Alabama, usually after work.

Apalachicola, stay at the Gibson Inn there.

Is it out of your way? Yup.

You can sleep in and have Lunch there.

The route from there to Orlando is mostly off the Interstate (#win)

It’s about 5 hours easy drive from Apalachicola to Orlando, get there around dusk and get settled in to your hotel that evening.

You’ll thank me later.

Best Western Plus Tallahassee North. Right off the interstate and was a nice place to sleep and eat free breakfast in the morning. Stayed there past 6 trips and worth it each time.

It’s not a bad drive to just go all the way, but the time we drove back after being in the park all that same day, we stopped in Tallahassee.

I like Lake City. There’s plenty of rooms there. Occasionally, I’ve gone through during some event that has the whole town booked up though.

When I’m running later, it’s Tallahassee. It adds another 1.5 hours to your drive down the next day.

They’ve jacked up the rates at Defuniak during summer and spring break since Covid. If the OP is long term planning for fall just need to check home football games for FSU if looking at Tallahassee.

Pensacola is too soon to stop for the night, but if you’re hungry when you pass through, a nationally recognized taco truck is a stone’s throw (literally) from I-10, behind the Shell station on the N Davis Hwy exit. Taqueria El Asador.

El Asador is freaking delicious. I crave that stuff constantly.

Experienced this last Mardi Gras. Pensacola was bat shite crazy on prices as well on the way home.

Lake City down and Tallahassee on the way back were the only 2 places we found that were reasonable. We booked on the fly both ways.

We stopped in Lake City in 2009 and stayed at the Comfort Suites which was new then.

The next two times we drove all the way through. We are going to Disney in a few weeks and the goal is to stop in Lake City.

On our drive to Miami last year we stopped in Gainesville - the hotel was fine - Hampton Inn I think …

We drove it straight last week and back yesterday. It was about a 10 hour drive, but not a bad drive. On the way going we stopped in Live Oak and on the way back in Tallahassee. The day we left was around 3:00-3:30 AM and that was a tough drive. Yesterday we slept in, packed our things, had breakfast, and left Disney around 9:00-9:30. That made a huge difference and I don’t really feel tired today.
