Nice looking skis! Looks a little dry out west for the next week or so, hoping the weather patterns changes soon to cover the mountains with snow

Let's talk lunch

I drink a ton of water on a normal day and even more when I am on a ski trip and I am not much for backpacks so I normally use my trail running vest. I normally only use one bottle (I have 12 oz flasks and a 20oz flask) but it does require frequent refills through the day so since I have my vest I normally through in some snacks / lunch.

On mountain pricing in Park City is pretty ridiculous so I was curious what are some of your favorites? For me, it's normally beef sticks, some trail mix and since we normally rent a condo with a full kitchen I like to cook burgers and hot dogs early in the trip and make extras and just bring a patty with me in a piece of foil.

I saw someone who made breakfast burritos in the morning and brought an extra with him which I thought was cool. One guy had a thermos in his backpack and in hit he had a bag of instant ramen that he added a bunch of stuff to and got hot water from the lodge but I definitely don't feel like bringing a thermos with me all day.

Another option I thought about was to just bring an extra backpack that I don't care too much about, pack a lunch in it and leave it in the lodge in a corner somewhere. If someone steals it, no biggie but chances are people are so concerned with what they;ve got going on they wouldn't even notice a bag...I know I wouldn't; there's always crap everywhere in those lodges.

I'll stop at a grocery store or Walmart on the way to the hotel/mountain. Pack pb&j sandwiches, granola bars, bag of chips, and a 32oz nalgene bottle of water all in my ski jacket. The bag of chips usually pops about an hr into my morning . If I'm still hungry I'll stop and get some trail mix or a small bowl of chili to help reduce overall costs

Another idea for the bag is find a good tree run and hide your bag in there. Although you have to be careful not to get stuck in a tree well!

That's not a bad idea.

Sometimes I drink beers, eat overpriced lodge food, and get a couple of extra candy bars. Other times I eat a half frozen uncrustable from my pocket and eat snow from tree branch.

I ride with a backpack. I have a camelback, but the tube freezes around 30°, so I just keep the bladder in there wrapped in a towel. Usually have 2 beers, a sandwich, and 2 protein bars to get me through the day. I always find a spot deep in the woods to chill for 20-30 mins to drink a beer and eat the sandwich. Protein bars on the lift.

If you've never ridden with a backpack, you will get used to it. It feels weird when I don't have one on now.

My wife goes the camelbak route but she wears it under the ski coat and that helps with freezing.

Always keep lunch in my car. It gets expensive when you ski every weekend if you always eat mountain food.

Breakfast is usually overnight oats or I make breakfast sandwiches for a couple days and microwave them the morning of.

Lunch is a sandwich/chips/beer in my car in the parking lot.

I try to eat a good breakfast, that way I can typically get by with eating light for lunch. That said, if I am at a place like Deer Valley I will go in the lodge and get some good food...I'm on vacation and sometimes you need to treat yourself.

My favorite place to eat on mountain is A-Basin, good food at a respectable price. One of the few places that gets it right.

Check out Loveland. Their food prices are incredible. I never pack food when I go there because it’s so cheap(comparatively).

While we wait on Duke to chime in, Gfs model for total snowfall within the next week. Looks like Washington, Montana and Wyoming do well

But in general I think it's been warm and dry

Keep the mouthpiece inside your coat and blow back any liquid back into the bladder.

Been pretty dry for a bit in Colorado since we first got snow a couple weeks ago. Next week looks promising. I just got back from the pool at my place . It’s been 80+ degrees in Denver this week.

I was in Breckenridge for the first snow in early October. It was fantastic...not so much since.

For those who have been to Mammoth, is it better to fly in and out of Ontario CA or Reno NV then make the drive on 395? Planning a christmas trip and looks like Ontario to there is 4 hr 45 min while Reno to Mammoth is 2 hr 51 min. The main worries I have are if 395 north of mammoth is shitty driving to Reno and I end up having to go around thus adding in time.

Worst case if I fly into Reno I guess I ski at Palisades/Squaw and let the weather clear. Or if I do Ontario I enjoy SoCal sun while roads clear up. Thanks!

I drove from LA this year. It’s long, but beautiful. And I would say it would probably be closer to 6 hours than 5.

Would you recommend that drive after a morning cross country flight from FL or risking potential weather issues from the drive from Reno? If you say that drive is long, it'd be likely that much worse after flying 6+ hours. But if the roads are usually clear that way I'd prefer that over shitty winter mountain driving
