Yeah, 87N to 25. Then I70. You will find the roads better maintained on that route. It's definitely what I would do, especially if you have kids with you.

Like he said, unless you have business in Denver you will be better served taking the loop to 70

Sounds like the plan.
How much of a pain will this be in FWD compared to AWD?

Could get a little tricky without AWD. Depends on the conditions. Maybe pick up some chains just to be safe. You won't need them except in a worst case scenario. Check the weather before you leave Amarillo and again before you leave the Denver area. Should be fine, just drive slow, leave plenty of distance between you and everyone else, and stay in the right lane on 70. DO NOT go the Hoosier Pass route in winter with no experience and no AWD!

Since you'll be in a FWD, CDOT's code 15 could come into play for you. They're pretty quick to put this out on I-70 when a storm is arriving.

Im honestly not sure on the specifics.
The vehicle is for the uncle of one of the guys im going with. He drives it to go skiing up around there at least once a year. And he's actually driving the same vehicle back up there the week we get back.
So im assuming it's not completely trash.

One of my best friends and his wife got into town for the week yesterday. Doing Christmas on the slopes for their first one as a married couple. Got a ski in ski out condo. Will be rolling around the mountain with him today and the rest of the week.

Nice timing for them as the forecast looks promising the next several days. My little guy is fading on me, had to do an early lunch today. May have to do a rest day tomorrow and then finish strong on Friday.

Sounds like y'all are having a good time

I'm off to South Dakota for Christmas at the SO's, then heading to Jackson Hole to ride two resort days and one backcountry around the pass, then to Whistler the 14-19 to ride some resort, do one day of cat skiing in the backcountry, and one backcountry day on my own two legs. The stoke level is pretty damn high

Been skiing Breck since Sunday with a day at Cooper near Leadville with family today.
Hitting Breck again in am. Might do Keystone on Friday while I'm here.

Yea we had a great week. Ended today with a small powder morning but after lunch everything was starting to bump out plus my little guy I could tell was exhausted after 5 days skiing so we packed up around 2 and headed to our hotel in Denver as we have an early flight tomorrow back home. Was a great first time in Steamboat and tentatively planning to come back next year this same time frame. It was amazing how soft the snow stayed all week. Only saw a couple of icy spots all week.

Side note, after getting on 70 at Silverthorne it became a parking lot. Typically we are going to the airport in the mornings so we can avoid the afternoon mess but I would hate to be in that mess on a day where the roads were snowy/icy.

Well guys, Today was exhausting!
I made it to Crested Butte last night and had to have my 4 kids fitted and at ski school at 9:30. None of us ever been skiing and after 5 hours I think We got the magic carpet mastered!! Praying tomorrow will be better now that we know what to expect, maybe We can actually get on the lift and give it a shot. other than that Crested Butte is absolutely stunning!

For those who have never considered Canada: just bought three day lift tickets and three day rentals (for 2 people) for $625 USD.

So, lift ticket + rental = $104/day per person at either Lake Louise, Sunshine Village, or Mt Norquay.

Three day lift tickets and rentals at Breckenridge for two people = $1,244 or a WHOPPING $207 per day per person!

I don't foresee me skiing CO unless I move there or plan a vacation that warrants me getting a season pass.

Families: If you care to save a few thousand dollars, ski Canada.
Just trying to help some people realize what I've learned planning this trip. Our room is $93/night in the middle of Banff!!

Meant to post this on Monday, but I've been crazy busy the past week.

Breck PD was busy recently.....

Breckenridge police and Summit County Sheriff’s deputies arrested and served summonses to at least 21 people on Wednesday, Dec. 14, after a two-month undercover drug investigation. The arrests targeted dealers operating out of bars and restaurants in Breckenridge, as well as in parks and on the streets. Some of the undercover buys occurred within sight of local schools. Most of the more than 70 felony charges filed were for distribution and conspiracy, but there were also weapons, false identification and burglary charges. The most common drug seized was cocaine, and the operation also brought in methamphetamine, LSD, prescription pills and GHB, a date-rape drug.

21 people arrested and one bar, The Mine, shut down.

....and just this past Sunday night....

According to a Monday morning press release, the Breckenridge Police Department put out a call to officers throughout the county to be on the lookout for a black Toyota 4-wheel drive vehicle a little after 11:20 p.m. Christmas night. The truck was logged as stolen from outside the 7-Eleven off State Highway 9 in Breckenridge after being left idling in the parking lot. Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted a truck matching the description just before 11:30 p.m. and stopped it on Ten Mile Road at the intersection of Summit Boulevard, location of the Frisco Plaza Center shopping area. A Frisco police officer and Colorado State Patrol trooper soon arrived to the scene as backup. Upon being approached by officers, the man in the truck — later identified as 33-year-old Nathaniel Steven Leisz — reportedly held a knife to himself in a threatening manner and refused to abide by orders from the officers. Police then used non-lethal force, including a Taser and a single bean bag round from a shotgun, to try to disarm him. According to the release, when those efforts were unsuccessful, Leisz charged at officers with the weapon. A sheriff’s deputy then fired several rounds from his gun at him, one of which hit Leisz’s hand.

Breckenridge is the new Chicago....
