Scummit County. I'm still a member of the local Facebook yard sale group, the infamous "One Mans Junk". The amount of theft in Summit is shocking. Outdoor gear and anything that isn't locked down outside seems to go missing all the time.
Lotta people come and go through that area now. Always seasonal work available. Think they can pay the high rent and then realize they actually have to work hard to survive in the high country. So then they start stealing. They suck.

A few friends of mine are letting me share lodging with them in Angel Fire starting Jan 2. Pretty last minute but I'll take it. Only thing is I have to get myself there alone so I'm gonna fly into Albuquerque and rent a car to get to Angel Fire and keep the car all week.
New to rental car business. Can I get by on that drive with the cheapest economy car they offer? I have a good bit of snow driving experience if that matters.

It really depends on the tires on the vehicle and if the vehicle is AWD. I drove a Malibu from Albuquerque to wolf creek last December in a blizzard and it did fine. Personally I wouldn't rent an economy and wouldn't go lower than intermediate.
You could also call that specific rental car branch as ask what type of car you may get and the type of tires they put on them also.

I can't figure out exactly why Colorado is so popular for trips. I guess Denver's proximity to the I-70 resorts? Salt Lake City is closer to steeper terrain with better snowfall averages. We really don't get that much snow here. I don't think we have a single top 20 snowfall resort. I'm glad it is close to me, but if I was planning a trip you can bet your arse it isn't here

I think it does have a lot to do with proximity to Denver. A lot of people that I know that come up like to do a day/night in Denver to check it out before or after going up the hill to ski. Legal weed I'm sure influences a lot of people's decision these days too I'm sure.
I agree though, I'd be going to UT, WY, ID, MT, or Whistler if I was coming from somewhere else and planning a full on ski trip with friends and/or family.

I think it's a combo of factors. Typically Denver is cheaper to fly into than other ski options especially for families who fly southwest to avoid multiple bag fees. I think also certain places in Colorado have "name recognition" and people tend to flock to places they have heard of. I think Epic pass has contributed heavily as well. Anyone who skis 5 days or more a season is better off buying a Epic season pass, besides the Rocky Mountain Pass, most other season passes are double the cost of Epic. I also find the CO snow "fluffier" than other states.
I think legalized weed does factor but it's a small factor. Places were already crowded before it was legalized.

Anyone privy to the availability of public school teaching jobs in CO or Utah?

Salt Lake area snowboarding trip. Park City or Snowbird? And if Park City, is it practical to stay in the Sandy, UT area and drive in daily? The prices for places way cheaper than staying in Park City?

We've got about a 50" base and 90" at the top of the mountain. Going to be a solid season.

Never been to Snowbird(want to though) but been to PC twice and stayed both times in PC. No idea about staying in Sandy but I guess if you feel driving in each time is worth the lower lodging costs that's up to you. PC is a fun town though. If you choose Snowbird there are some SLC hotels that the bus to Snowbird stops at. During a big snow storm unless you have snow tires or chains a lot of times you won't be allowed into the canyon that Snowbird is located in so you would have to catch the bus there.
I've found reasonable price options in PC once you get away from on mountain lodging. Make sure to look at VRBO and AIRBNB. PC also has free buses that run all around town you can use to get to either mountain base.

Anyone ever skiied Angel Fire? How is it compared to Colorado ski areas?

Its smaller. Not a great place for beginners imo.

Base here is 70" (YTD 135") with no overnight snow, but fresh stuff today. Great conditions!

Steamboat is at 48" mid-mountain with 128.5" snow YTD. No official report at the summit. But probably like 55-60" and 140" YTD.

Just checked the webcams for Steamboat and goodness that gondola lift lane is insane. I would hate to spend the money it takes to get there and then show up to that.

Will be going to Telluride in the upcoming weeks with some friends. What is the bar scene and food like? We are all around the age of 25-30.

We're sitting here watching the gondola line at our house because F that noise. We built some jumps in the back yard so we'll be doing that today.
I feel like this is the one week a year that even Steamboat turns to a complete shite show.

Gondola only goes up to mid mountain at Steamboat.

We're having some urban avalanches. I imagine he backcountry is pretty unstable right now as well.
