Post from Google on Price Increase

Streaming services pricing themselves out one by one. Cable basically the same price when you switch between specials.

Yep, I will be looking at alternatives. I'm not a fan of Google's political posture as is so I welcome a viable option. Still, I was paying 100 bucks a month for Cox television so it's better than that alternative. And with football looking like it's not happening this Fall, I won't have a strong incentive to watch network TV anyway.

Don't know about Cox, but Charter has an unpublished package that is slimmed down with limited number of channels, then you can add your favorite streaming - Netflix, or Apple TV+, etc and do ok. Something like that would allow you to get away from "Google".

Jesus, so much for them being a viable alternative. They started at like $45/mo right?

Only a matter of time until Hulu raises their price again, then I'll probably bolt

It was $40 when I signed up. 62% higher than it was just a few years ago.

At this point I might as well get cable again because I'll get a bundle discount on my internet too.

Yeah this is a clownshow

What possible advantage is there for a lagging streaming company with fewer channels? Less equipment? The often-proclaimed, little value "no contract"?

I just switched from DTV this weekend after waiting for 6 months for my contract to expire. While I'm glad to be done with DTV, it's pretty hard to justify the value of YTTV now.

Over the Top services still let you sign up and cancel with a few clicks. That's a big advantage. This past fall I tried like 5 different services in one morning after SlingTV announced they were shutting down.

Meanwhile it took me 4 separate hour plus phone calls (the longest being 2.5 hours) to Suddenlink to upgrade my internet from 200 mbps to 400 mbps over a 3 week period last month.

Nobody asked for Viacom. Nobody.

Just give us sports damn it. That's all we want.

We aren't heavy TV watchers. We watch football and maybe 2 or 3 shows that come on live TV. My wife also puts on the news in the morning while she's getting dressed.

Everything else is pretty much Netflix. At this point, we'll be paying $160 for YTTV and internet. I can probably get a cable bundle for that.

We already have Amazon Prime which has a wide selection of additional content. I'm hoping that Amazon will eventually offer live TV as an cost effective option through Prime Video.
In the mean time, I will do a free trial of Hulu's live tv plan and test the waters with Cox again who at least offers reduced priced packages with fewer channels.
The main problem I have with YouTube TV is the same problem I had with Cox, they keep going up on the price while justifying it by adding content that I'm not interested in. If there are costumers who want the Viacom/CBS channels then let the pay the extra 15 bucks a month for it and let me keep what I have for 50 bucks a month.

Yeah I’m done. They keep adding worthless channels and increasing the price. I’ll be back with dish or directv most likely. I’ve been a huge backer of YouTube tv but a 30% increase for nothing is insane

This was the plan all along. Start cheap, lure viewers away from cable, run cable out of business as you creep up your prices to eventually equal what cable has been. Technology has surpassed cable and satellite, so this was the method to switch everything over to the new tech while ultimately maintaining the same revenue flow.

You absolutely can, with more channels and probably bonuses (like uncapped internet).

I'll probably ride this out for a while (we're considering a move anyway). I don't think we're paying more, but if we have to pay for uncapped internet we might be.

Glad they did this now.
I was planning on switching over in July but this price increase only puts a few dollars difference between it and my cable service.

I would have been pissed to seduce and then get the increase next month.

Our cap is 1.25 TB now which we don't have a problem with.

We'll likely be in this house at least another 5 years and most of the rooms are already wired for cable. Never thought I'd end up back with Cox tv

There's already too many sports channels. I'd gladly drop them all to save a few bucks.

Couldn't agree more. I was on VUE early & loved it. When they went out, YTTV was the next best thing. I have really liked it too but I just got this email and it really pisses me off. I don't give a shite about any of those viacom channels. I wish they just let you pick a package like sling does.

After VUE I tried the other big 3 free trials and sling was 2nd on my list. I think I'll give them a full month & see what I think.

Everyone called this when Vue went away and they added channels people didn't want.

I'll probably stick with it for now, but will start re-evaluating at the next price hike.

I agree. I get raising the price every now and then, prices go up, but you can't raise my price by nearly 25% overnight effective immediately and just get an "ok" from me.
