Just bought a new mini- computer. It’s has Microsoft 11, but no Word or Excel. What’s the best way to obtain those two programs? Microsoft 365 or purchase and download each program individually? Thanks

Have you considered using a free option like Open Office or the Google Office/Drive suite?

I’m not familiar with Open Office.

I haven't used Open Office in years, so I'll defer to someone who has more recent experience, but I've been using the Google office suite for the better part of a decade and have had zero issues.

Office 2024 is $99 one time purchase. I wonder if that’s the way to go?

You can try Google Sheets and Docs. They do most of the common things that Excel and Word do and they are free.

You can use Office online for free.
You can buy a license and install it on a single PC.
Or you can subscribe to Microsoft 365, which gives you all the latest apps and 1TB of cloud storage on up to 5 devices.

Libre Office - 100% compatible with office docs and free!

I have used Excel since it was first released, great product! Our company switched to Google Workspace 7 years ago and at first I didn’t care for Google Sheets but I have come to love it. There are a few things you can do in excel that you can’t in GSheets; however, there are quite a few things you can do in sheets that you can’t in excel. I now prefer sheets to excel.

I do not like 365 at all. Everything is web-based, including the programs themselves. Get regular Office.

By default, but if you're paying for O365, you can download local progs to up to 5 PCs.
Funny how people bitch about about web based apps, on a web bulletin board.
Your alternative for a local install is what, exactly? Open Office?

Just go to office.com and use the real versions for free.
Even the paid versions that have local applications still work on the cloud when they can.
I prefer Google sheets to excel when dealing with data manipulation but that’s just me.
Edit: and the guy above me apparently.

There's a regular Office version still. Just personal preference.
