Last week I bought a live concert from a bands website that came with 2 weeks vod and am wondering if there's a way to save the video. It's not on YouTube or nuggs or offered as a download if so I would just buy it. I'm wondering if I need to use a screen record app to save it. I have to hit play to start the video so unlike some YouTube ones that I've used in the past I am not sure that just copying the link will work but I am open to suggestions.

It likely has DRM and it may even block screen recorders. You may or may not be able to get around the blocking by turning off hardware acceleration in your browser. Aside from that it's hard to figure out without knowing what kind of stream you're trying to record.

But the fatal flaw with all DRM is the analog hole (anal-hole for short). As a last resort you may have to record the playback with another device.

may / may not work for your particular website but take a look at VideoDownloadHelper plug in for Firefox (and others)

I'm thinking this will be a huge undertaking and take a lot of computer processing. That's a lot of video to process, that's even if there is no copyright protection. I haven't messed with video capture in a bit though so maybe something new is out there.

I wonder if just grabbing the audio would be better/easier?

I use OBS to capture HOA meetings our board tries to turn off recording in Zoom. I am sure you could do it that way. It wouldn't be as good as the original source, but it would get the job done.

Yep, OBS would definitely be the easiest way. Initial setup can be overwhelming if you don't know what you're doing, but there's plenty on YouTube about it

Since you mentioned that you have to hit Play to start the video, this probably won't work, but it's such a simple way to download videos I figured I'd share it anyway. Worth a shot.
