Want to stay under $1,000 for sure. No Mac either. Thanks!

Unclear on price but we use Lenovo Thinkpads at work and if I was getting a windows laptop that’s what I would get.

My daughter used a MacBook Air as a business major at LSU.

Look at 4th of July sales coming up…Dell, Asus, MSI are good brands…try to get best bang for your buck with processor/ram/storage options and see which have best option on graphics card

Don't overthink this.
Any Dell or Lenovo between $500 and $800 will be plenty good enough.
Just got an Inspiron 14 for $550 I think (Costco). It's great.

A general business major will have no actual "needs" beyond "it turns on and works". So, aim for thin, light, and long battery life. That will matter more than just about anything else.

M2 macbook air is cheaper and better than anything else on the market, by a giant margin.
Is what it is, i wouldn't even consider buying anything else.

Get the lightest one you can find. Under 14" screen. Get an external monitor for the kid to use at the dorm, if needed.
The ability to "fold" is a complete gimmick I never used, once, when I had a Yoga, but something like this would be perfectly sufficient. Part of the key when you're looking for laptops is that you have to make sure you're viewing *all* of the laptops available at Dell/Lenovo, not just what is featured.
Also, get the kid a proper mouse to bring along. Don't condition them to be a trackpad drone. I have used the Microsoft Arc mouse for over a decade (I use the old version with actual buttons.)

They tote the things everywhere so go light with good storage.

Doesn't need to be high end for that major. Get a three or four year old Thinkbook on eBay.

Don’t even need a laptop with that major.

Like they said, light and good storage. Kids will be nore worried about the branding

Lenovo X1 Carbon...I think they are on the 10th generation, now.
