I’ve had HP and Canon inkjets over the last 10 yrs. All have been extremely problematic, but for different reasons. WiFi on early ones was terribly unreliable. Canons seem to be mechanically shotty. With our recent one, a simple attempt at clearing a jam has seemingly fubared it.

Do I need to spend more for something other than an inkjet to get more reliability? How long should I reasonably expect these to last? We don’t use it much, but when we need it, we need it. Need color, but no photo printing. Tia

Have a HP M277dw that has been solid for a few years now. With my current Covid quarantine and home school on going it has been non stop!

It sure ISN'T the Epson ET-2550. Run away from this beast. I bought it because of the large ink wells. That works well; but it is extremely particular about the type of paper you put in it. Anything that is thicker than regular paper causes jamming issues.

Stay away! You've been warned.

Any laser printer will be leaps better than any inkjet printer.

My Dell b&w laser has been kicking for like 5-6 years

stay away from inkjets. laser with wifi way to go. you can often find 3rd party laser cartridges on ebay or amazon that cost considerably less than manufacturer charges.

canon and brother make good consumer laser printers. brother is less expensive for the printer itself and cartridges too.

Had HP’s for several years and always had problems with them not staying connected via WiFi and they seem to eat ink cartridges. The guy at Office Depot talked me into trying a Brother and it has been solid. Also the ink cartridges are cheaper than HP’s.

Brother, Epson, Konica Minolta, and Kyocera are all good.

HP is the devil and I refuse to buy their printers

I've had a Samsung monochrome laser usb printer since 2007. Works fine.

I think they got out of the printer business a while back though. It's a shame, they made nice stuff.

Yeah frick HP. They nag you about updating the firmware until you agree (or they update silently without asking) and they disable 3rd party cartridges. They've been sued over that shite in the past and they still do it.

Brother monochrome laser will last forever.

Epson inkjet for color, best of the bunch in eccentric inkjet field.

Haven’t tried color lasers yet. (Are they good.)

I have the opposite experience to yours. I've had a Canon multifunction printer for 10 years with zero problems, but, I got a top end model, not the cheapest printer available. Maybe that makes a difference?

HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-in-One is the best one I have ever had. I hear good things about the Epson SureColor P600 if photo quality pictures are something you care about. If you just need something to print black and white documents, the Brother HL-L2350DW is about as bulletproof as a home printer gets.
