So I recently got the Moto Z play.

I don't play games, and don't need all that other latest and greatest stuff that usually doesn't work (I'm looking at you Samsung).

I took my phone off the charger at about 8:30 this morning and I currently have 85% left.

My previous phone was a droid turbo which also had incredible battery life (but not this good).

Why is it so hard to find more than one or two phones with truly great battery life!?

I'll be back to answer this after I charge my iPhone.

more features/more expensive or higher res display and longer battery life are mutually exclusive. Battery life doesn't improve much because each new model tries to improve on it's feature set to stay competitive.

I'm with you fwiw. Just give me a phone with a premium build, a good processor, and expandable memory. frick the bells and whistles.

I've ran the Moto phones since...ever. Beginning with the original Moto Droid Maxx thru the Turbo to the Moto Z Force. Battery, or lack thereof, has never even crossed my mind. I can't even imagine having to recharge during the day. Outstanding series of phones & I've become quite addicted to the Moto Actions & Display.

I've been waiting to run across a good deal on the Z Play the last couple of weeks specifically for the battery life to see if it's truly that great.

I yearn for iPhone 7 battery size and efficiency coupled with iOS4 technology. One charge would last a week

I've had most of the major Android brands at some point. I am absolutely a Motorola loyalist now. At two years old my Droid turbo was just as quick as the day I got it. I can remember counting down the days til upgrade with my galaxies because of how slow they got.

I understand the market for these latest and greatest phones. However, I think there is another sizeable chunk of folks who just want a well made phone, that's durable, has a decent camera, good battery life, and won't turn to shite in a year or two.

Also, there's no way I could go back to a phone without the moto camera gesture, and the active display.

I switched from a 6s to a Pixel. I know the XL is supposed to be better with battery life but let's be serious for a minute. These are batteries on "smart" phones. If you're sending a few txt a day sure the battery will last longer, but using aps, constantly closing them after use, and my phone isn't as advertised. Don't get me wrong I like the pixel, but marketing made me regret the purchase.

I have the S8+, and it lasts like that too. I have the resolution turned down on it.

amen

That is all that 95% of people that use phones are interested in anyway.
The HTC that I had for two years was the most rugged phone I've ever had, and I had the tundra. Never put a case on it, dropped it hundreds of times and the screen never cracked. Well it had little hairline cracks on it, but it did nothing to distort the display. Battery life sucked though, and so did the camera, since it cracked as well.

Moto Z play.
Would this be an upgrade from Nexus 5X or more lateral move?

My s8+ regularly gets 24-30 hrs on a full charge with on average 4hr screen on time. Not a huge screen on time, but I was getting maybe half of that with same SoT on my Nexus 6p.

I have the galaxy S7 active. I stay on my phone with games and internet all day long just about and I still struggle to use the battery at the end of the day.

Upgrade. It's not a high end phone but it will perform better than the 5x.

I get 8+ hrs or SOT on the Galaxy S8+. The Galaxy S7 edge had good battery life as well.

The Samsung hate is ridiculous. Hate on their software, but when it comes to hardware they are far and away the best in the game.

Moto Z Play has the GOAT battery life. My wife has one now and you would have to work very hard to actually have to charge daily. Light to moderate users can easily get 3/4 days.

My Sony Z3 was great but it doesn't compare. Really just shows that if more phone manufacturers would stop putting 4k screens we could really get some great phones.

The battery life on my Pixel is so much better than what I was getting on my G4. I've been using it pretty often between podcasts, texting, internet use, snapchat, location services on, live wallpapers, etc. and it's lasting me all day. The best part is that if I do run low and need it to last a while longer, I can charge it for 20 minutes and get a good bit of juice back.

My G4 would literally take 4 hours to charge and it would die multiple times per day with a small fraction of the usage I'm putting on my Pixel.

I wouldn't trade the amazing screen for on the S8+ for better battery life.

When I pick up any other phone the screen looks cheap and I feel like I'm watching TV at my grandma's house in the country.

Design without compromising aesthetics and performance is hard.

Samsung had a window of exclusivity window with the Snapdragon 835 which is by far the most energy efficient chip on any American Android phone. They also were able to fit a big battery in relatively small footprint. It is an engineering masterpiece.

Definite phone of 2017 until the new Note or Pixel come out.

My S8+ has solid battery life. I'm actually quite surprised. My Note 5 was atrocious.
