Thinking of making switch from android to Apple

Because of privacy mainly. Apple has a better record when it comes to protecting data.
I haven't had an iPhone since the very first version though. So I imagine I'll be in for a huge adjustment period.
Anyone make the change and regret it later?
If I do decide to switch, should I wait until the next version comes out in the fall?

I made the switch about a year ago, definitely some things I miss and honestly, if messaging between the two ever gets figured out I will probably go back to Android.
The keyboards suck on iOS, the notifications and settings are atrocious, and not being able to place apps anywhere on the Home Screen is just stupid at this point
Overall though, iOS has been fine, it’s not noticeable faster or more stable than android as most claim, but i don’t regret making the switch

Losing the customization android offers is something I think I'll miss a lot.
How is battery life? My s9+ battery was once good but is on its way out now.

Apples notifications are mind boggling awful. There is zero ryhme or reason to them. Android notifications are the primary reasons I recently moved back to android.

You’re gonna miss a lot of great features, Ones that will frustrate you to no end. The biggest to me is probably around phone numbers that I should be able to click to dial. Apple can’t seem to figure out 3x3x4 digits is likely a phone number.
But it’s been a good platform for the most part. I don’t do Android because I don’t like google.

You’re already half way into a phones life cycle. If you aren’t worried about the latest and the greatest , don’t worry about the fall release and get an iPhone with one of the various deals.

Have android as my personal phone and iPhone for a work phone and I get very frustrated with iOS.
Only superior feature is imessage between other iPhone users

I made the switch several months ago for the reason you mentioned.
I’m happy I did. I had many different Android phones over the years (Samsungs, HTCs, OnePlus, Pixel, etc.) and yes the customizability was a “nice to have” but not a “need to have.”
I was surprised at how fluid iOS really is compared to Android…even the best Android phones are glitchy and I really never thought that until I got the iPhone 12 Pro. I’m sure that will anger people here, but iOS is the smoother user experience over Android which makes it feel faster in day to day use. Apps generally work very seamlessly and they seem more polished than apps on Android.
I’m still a big Android fan, but iOS is a hard package to beat if you don’t care about losing out on the customizability of Android.
Camera is great, battery life is great, I don’t mind the notch at all which I thought I would, resale value should be stellar when I decide to upgrade.

Don't do it, I went from apple to Android and will never go back

Also want to add that unless you get a Pixel on Android, you’re going to wait over a year for your smartphone’s company and carrier to push Android releases to your phone.
For some people this isn’t a big deal, but Android updates remain stupidly delayed, often times to the point Google is touting features of its new and upcoming Android version before you will get the most recent one.

Apple rolls out software updates regularly, mainly due to Security Updates. When these Android phones have the same old software for that long, how does the security of the phone suffer?

So the security updates get pushed regularly with Android. I’m not sure whether Apple or Android push those for longer. I would bet Apple since they push their OS to older phones than Android gets from Google and their carriers.
My above comment was specifically for new versions of Android with new features.

Same. I've been Android forever but will probably go with the iPhone 13 when it comes out.

Did apple ever release a phone with a microSD cardslot? That's always been one of the deal breakers for me.

There are almost no android phones that offer this any longer, and internal storage has basically caught up with typical use.
This I don’t miss as much as being able to find an android phone with IR

This is outdated advice. Samsung is rolling out monthly security patches ASAP recently. Sometimes at the end of the previous month. They are also providing 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security patches now.
I'm not a big fan of Samsung in general but the update situation on Android has vastly improved recently.

Agree with this. And people will object. But practically every flagship Android phone I had (and I had a number) was finicky at times and I just haven't had anything like that on iPhone. Apple is annoying because there will always be a handful of things that seem counterintuitive but Apple doesn't care and thinks whatever it is is brilliant. But it's not really a hardware issue or a OS "problem" - it's just Apple overthinking something for the alleged sake of simplicity or usability. I think notifications and sounds fall into this category.
Other than that my biggest gripe with Apple are Siri and Homekit, which are just half-assed. That said, Google/Nest has issues too, although for the average person that wants to talk to their phone and reliably get directions or a phone number to pop up, Google's OS is far superior IMO. Not a small factor to me, but not enough to keep me in Android world.
