The new GMAIL UI fricking sucks

Why does Google always change shite? I have been using GMAIL for over a decade and the changes have always been very minimal.
The changed my GMAIL to this new shitty, annoying version. Yes, I know I can revert back to the old version but I know sooner or later they will make me always use this new version

It's annoyingly slower than the older version.. but it is reading my emails and predicting responses now, so there's that whole big brother thing that creeps me out and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy...
