Switching from Android to iOS

Considering it. We are going to change our carrier and if we are going to do it, we might as well trade in our current phones for new ones.
What are some of the things we would have to adapt to in switching over - both good and bad? Never had an iPhone before. It would be my wife and I - she is technology challenged, so after the initial switch, I'm thinking it could be easier for her. She conflates e-mail with text message all the time - to her they are the same thing.
I am more technical savvy, but would like to hear from people who have done this recently. How easy is it to convert contacts, etc...
FYI - we both have Samsung Galaxy S21 phones that are almost 2 years old, so there is nothing wrong with them - other than the charging port on mine is bad.

Nothing really to look out for, just a new system to learn. I switched to an iPhone after swearing I'd never have one a few years ago, never looked back. All of the Apple stuff integrates so well, if you get an Apple watch or the Airpods, they integrate instantly into the ecosystem.
As far as converting everything, Apple has an app that will transfer everything over, contacts, photos, etc. The amount of accessories is unreal as well.

You're going to need new charging cables to replace the ones you have everywhere.

We use mostly wireless chargers. Cables in the car, mostly.

I sometimes use an iPhone and for me it was this:

In particular, if you’re coming from Android, where you may have grown accustomed to a dedicated back button, iOS on iPhone may seem difficult to navigate, especially if you’re new to the platform. Let’s take a look at a few different options and see what we can find out about them.
quote:
Swipe to return to the previous screen. In iOS, you can swipe from left to right on almost any screen (including first- and third-party apps) to return to the previous screen. Try it out in a variety of apps to make it a habit and increase the efficiency of your UI design.
Another option for returning to the previous screen on an iPhone or any other Apple device is to tap the blue back arrows (chevrons). The standard option, but not as fluid or convenient, is to keep an eye out for the blue back arrows that have text on them. Typically, you can tap any blue text that appears with a left-facing arrow that appears on the screen.

Everyone I know that's done this has regretted it

This is my fear, but iPhone traditionally is more user friendly. My wife needs user friendly, but I suspect she will struggle during the transition.
We both have good phones, and could stick with those, but usually you get the best deals as a new customer.
Actually, it looks like I may be able to trade my S21 for an S22, so I could do that. The deals they were advertising were "free iPhone 14 Pro with a valid trade" OR "buy one Galaxy S22 and get $800 of the second one". If I dig a little deeper, They are offering $1000 on approved trades for the S22, as well. I could do that and get a new android.

Learning something new for a non-tech person is not user friendly

At least not at first. It will be nice that my wife won't be able to call me for a couple of weeks, though...

I like my iPhone, but there were a few things that really bugged me coming from android a few years ago.
Main thing is android is much more intuitive about some simple user interface things. For example a phone number appearing in an email message would always be a clickable link that would open the Phone app and dial the number. iPhone has zero concept of this.
Which leads to my second biggest pet peeve. In order to get a phone number out Of a text block, you have to try to select a number, which typically only selects part of the number, then you have to touch the ends of the selection and drag left or right to highlight the whole number. iPhones touch selection sucks arse. Half the time you do not get the little bubbles that help you select , and when you do, your finger is in the way of the selection and the magnifying glass bubble rarely is sufficient to show where your cursor selection is.
Also, my iPhone has been losing contacts randomly the last several months. I have no idea why, and I have lost some very important contacts that I can’t easily get back. Problem is you don’t know it until you really need to get that contact.

Just did this with Galaxy S22 ultra and iPhone 14 pro max, back up everything to google and use the android to iOS setup when setting up new iPhone for text messages etc. I had to download all my apps and re login was pia but it’s done. Make sure all photos/vids/contacts are backed up to google
Honest review is it’s a tie for me, basically what Apple does great they do great and what android does great they do great. I could bore you with every little thing but if being in an ecosystem that is more “together” then go for Apple. Everything is pretty easy and works great but Apple is only making software for 4 phones a year and it don’t differentiate that much where android has i don’t even know how many options/ manufacturer skins to deal with but that is what makes it great. The perfect phone in my opinion would be a Google Pixel with all its software innovations coupled with Samsung hardware and Samsung native apps like gallery, photo editing and spen and have apples messaging system integrated. My S22 Ultra had the best overall camera out of the three phones I’ve had over the past year being P6 pro, 22 Ultra and 14 pro max. I don’t do a ton of video so that is a moot point for me.
Another thing is AirPods Pro gen 2 are great best range I’ve gotten out of any BT ear buds and sound pretty good overall and have crazy good noise cancellation . I ordered a watch also as none of my galaxy stuff works or has apps to control most of my accessories(which is something else to consider). Galaxy watch 4 will not get all your messages that are iMessage only sms will come through, my buds live have an app so I’m keeping them but my buds pro don’t and sound like shite. Sorry it got long but that’s the quick version and just a few things to consider.

That's funny, I just checked and it worked on my iPhone. The number came right up to dial in the phone app.

Right. I’ve never had that issue either. Just checked my email, tapped a number and it popped right up asking for confirmation that I wanted to call.

so just made the switch back to IOS since the disaster of iphone 7.
overall it has been ok, here are my complaints
1. copy and paste sucks dick on iphone
2. the browsers suck dick on iphone, even chrome sucks compared to chrome on android.
3. keyboard sucks on ios
4. NO BACK BUTTON!!
5. also sometimes in the middle of things i cant just hit the home button to get out of an app.
6. no easy button to double click to allow the closing of apps
7. email on ios kind of sucks, but getting used to it
i loved my pixel and then note ultra, but i will say i am still happy i switched back to ios. 99% of apps are a lot better and work how they are supposed to. Imessage is nice now being able to receive videos that are actually viewable. Facial recognition is better than fingerprint.
other than the above, iphone pretty much does everything else better than android
forgot 1 and it may be the biggest thing that sucks, the lightening cable. I was used to the 100w super fast charger i had with android phones. very much ready for iphones to have type C charging ports. but so far this hasnt been a problem as i have found the iphone battery to be much much better than my pixel and note ultra batteries.

The iPhone has always been able to do this since the original iPhoneOS 1.0.

You took the words out of my mouth.
Switched back to iOS recently after a decade with android.
My initial takeaway was just how much more polished iOS and its apps are compared to Android. Things just work and you don’t have compatibility or instability issues.
I also really like my Apple Watch. After years of fighting with Android watches, Apple has them beat…big time.

I can agree with this, while galaxy watch got a lot better after google and Samsung kinda got together on the 4 my wife’s Apple Watch always worked better and at the time hated to admit. Only thing that drives me crazy on Apple is the back button on phone it’s so annoying I loved how it was integrated into android gestures making the phone more one handed . But so far I am happy with the 14 Pro max that may change a couple years from now but I was android since the first android phone was available. Part of it may be I was just bored and wanted to try something different.
Also just wanted to note talk to text isn’t as good on Apple, google wins that competition by a mile if you know you know.

iOS is just light years ahead of Android and it's the #1 reason I switched back to iphone. Probably never going back.

Pros, iPhone users will love you for it. Cons, everything else. Software is light years behind
